This was not a rant, or a guy being upset. It was somewhat humorous. Like going to park meadows mall. Your post if pretty defensive. Maybe you feel guilty for participating in such behavior.

Again... I was not upset about the situation other than the rope on the head. This did not warrant much of a discussion cause I could tell the dude was stressing to climb no matter what. I have often been witness to these acts, and not directly involved. Seriously just wondering what the attraction was. For those of you that have given explanation, it makes sense. Boulder is probably per capita the most active place with many people visiting and wanting part of the boulder lifestyle. Table mountain is crazy, but it's also right there.

Tony, Your probably right about my shitty attitude, that is probably why I look for solitude. Quite places make me feel warm and fuzzy.

I'm with Tony on this. I've been climbing at all of those crags for years both when I was, ahem, "local" and when I lived down in this cesspool I am in right now. The first time I actually had someone lead over my rope was on Spiral Route on Notchtop. Never dealt with more shenannigans than at Shelf Road, but then I climb there a lot these days.

We laugh at the ettiquete thread, but a lot of nOObs simply don't know any. So they come across as rude. Hell, we were rude dropping rocks as nOObs back in Austin when we started out. I'd kill us now.

Definitely get out to some other crags to alieviate this problem or show up to BoCan a little drunk or stoned to mellow out the experience.

I personally really like Boulder, the town, the people, the university (although it is a close second to CSM :-)), the food, the climate, the rivet and the climbing...... And as it is such a perfect place I expect it to be crowded.......

Now if you want to get away from the crowds, well it is only two hours to the Voo..... Only a couple of other climbing parties were seen today, total. Of course you must like it awful!!!!!

And I like you, Princess Mia. You know, there's just not much about Boulder, you, and well, the Front Range that I don't like. I like that about it.

+1 Addison

Well Randy you listed some of the most popular Crags at one of the most popular climbing areas in the US. OF COURSE it's gonna be crowded. Yeah it sucks that people are douches, but it's what happens to popular [things in general]. I agree with Stich, inebriation of any sort helps. Trad areas/routes definetly tend to be alot less crowded. Also talking to people and asserting yourself as present in an area tends to help with anyone running over you. And yeah alot of climbers at the popular crags aren't from the area (like you were), I think many locals have their special spots hidden around Boulder. Other than that you have to realize your going to the DisneyLand of climbing

Defensive? Of what? Throwing topropes down sport crags? Cutting in lines?
If you knew anything about me at all that would be really funny to even you.

I just wanted it offer a reality check. I can't imagine heading to 6 crags in Bocan and at every single one/every single time encountering the problems you reported to have.

I hear you on the not liking crowds- the perception of scarcity of any resource (material or not) increases the 'value' of the object and so crowded crags are more 'competitive' by nature. If you are at a crag with 5 to 10 < 5.10 sport climbs around here on a weekend, you can't be expecting solitude. You have to go ready for the tragedy of the commons. What resembles a gym will... resemble a gym.
On the other hand, there are places you can be fairly assured not to run into crowds. Nobody was on (or near) any of the climbs I did Sunday AM.

Idk...we always have frisky cliff all to ourselves :)

Easter Rock has never been very crowded either (last time there was one other party of two gentlemen).

Any place with easy access and easy routes will be packed...

But it's cool, there is a ton of great rock in my back yard, so it's the least of my worries really. People here get so jaded :) Be happy you have so many options!

I love boulder and all of the climbing it has to offer. If all you want to do is bitch about the people and the how the crags are then don't come around. Like you said there are plenty of other places to go.

The best thing about Boulder Canyon is it keeps the crowds down in Eldorado.

I climb in BoCan at least twice a week (do to its close proximity to my job), and I can honestly say that we NEVER have to wait in lines, listen to DBags spray their flamming bullshit, worry about ropes falling on our heads, or any of the other crap you and others have mentioned.

We also choose not to climb at ANY of the crags you mentioned either.

Lucky for us there is literally a PLETHORA of great climbing scattered throughout the length of that entire Canyon!

Here's a thought: Perhaps next time, if you play nice and try to talk to some "locals", make friends, or simply just be a courteous compadre of the general climbing community, then MAYBE someone will show you where you can climb there with NO crowds.

cheers

I just read a quick overview of the thread. LOL, this was good for a laugh. If we can just keep all these people in Boulder Canyon the rest of the community will be in good shape.
Cheers

If you want to have a good time and not catch a case of douche-itis, then i suggest you climb elsewhere. Since i'm already a douche i'll risk it in up in Bocan, hopefully without having to snake your route from you.
It's morons like this that make BoCan so unpalatable. F'ing George Clooney lookalikes.

Did anyone else read the post think something like: “That’s really harsh there are lots of fun relaxed places to climb in BoCo.” Then think “Well if he went on a nice weekend in the middle of the day to the easy sport/really easy trad areas....” Think of a few areas scroll down look at his list which includes every area you thought of and start laughing?
