City of Rocks mid-June

Heading over to Idaho to get some kayaking and climbing in. I'm looking into camping around City of Rocks for several days, though not sure the dates yet. Plan on climbing mostly 5.7 & 5.8, though willing to try up to 5.10 sport top-roping. Most of my climbing experience is occasional - around CO over the years. Did Baxter's Pinnacle & some 5.7 friction in the Sawtooths many years ago on a family vacation. Back up that way on a solo road trip... anyone around who may be down to meet & get some climbs in? Also, any beta on the mountains this time of year and good ski routes (Tetons) let me know. Looking for partners!

If you are looking for more sport routes, I would suggest Castle Rocks (about 20 or so from City of Rocks). You will see a sign as you come into Almo (depending on you're entrance). No camping there so still stay at City of Rocks or BLM land. We usually try for site #46-Across from Bath rock, close to bathrooms, water, overall good location. The upper Breadloaves West in City rock also has some fun sport routes.

Have fun, we are there frequently, I would also suggest finding a place to rest your head with some shade, can be very warm.

I might meet-up if Brooke is a dude. If Brooke is a she, I'd be in big trouble for even considering it. I think it's an important question...

Dunno if you've camped there before, but the setup is extremely unfriendly to spur-of-the-moment trips, especially on the weekends. Reserve your site now, or be ready to spend a lot of time looking for a site.

Also, the online registration is really hard to operate, so set aside some time for it.

Just call them, super easy. Takes 5 mins and they will tell you right away if they have any availability.

Or you can camp at BLM land - but the campsites at the city are really nice so I suggest that you do that. Definitely reserve during summer...

Thanks to all the wonderful people that helped with beta on the City! What a great trip. May have to get back one of these days, & will keep all this for good contacts. Keep it real on the rock!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
