Any one got info on the crags closest to Leadville. Going to be doing some camping there around the 4th and would really like to get a few routes in without driving to Independence Pass. Thanks

If I remember right there is a small crag north of town on the east side of hwy 91, maybe 8 or 9 short sport routes ranging from 5.8 to 5.10. Nothing special but okay for a few hours. I think that it was no more than a 3 or 4 min walk from the parking area.

Camp Hale has a some climbing. Short routes but the history there makes it very cool. There is a guide book in print, I think it is "Arkansas Valley climbing" or something like that.

There are quite a few good routes at Camp Hale (highway 24), also further down the road at Homestake.

I think corey is talking about Cecil Rock mountainproject.com/v/cecil…. Pretty fun little crag, gets nice sunshine. Just out of town heading towards Fremont Pass.

Check out the WESTON WALL! South facing, high Alpine setting up Weston pass 6 miles on the left... There is 6 routes that I established up there. Click on my name and look through the list of "areas" I added to MProject to find the Weston Wall....

Monitor Rock on Independence Pass is worth the drive and really not that far out of town. It's one of the first cliffs encountered on the pass and has Sport, Trad, and Multi Pitch. There is awesome bouldering at the Kluttergarden (down 24 towards Minturn). Also some sport climbs down 24 towards minturn but you will have to do a little exploring. About a mile before you get to the Kluttergarden there is a dirt road on your left. If you go down it you will drive past some sport climbing crags that I remember being pretty fun. It's been a while so vague directions at best.

+2 on Monitor. Plus some great bouldering on both sides of Independence Pass.
