Any info on what I could expect the weather/conditions to be like around the third week of June would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

weather/storms is hit or miss. it can be nice for a week, or
suck for a week. last year we went the 1st week of august.
what i recall from weather reports is that it sucked, sucked, then sun for a week, then we went - sun for another week. then we left, and it sucked for a week... so with that being said, good luck.

glacier travel was easy last year. it was a late and heavy snow year up there. don't know what this season is / will be like.

hope that helps some.

ps: look at my blog for some pictures of last years trip
(if you want to see what things looked like then...)

Thanks Cor.

Ideally I would like to be there in July, However, because of conflicting schedules that is not possible. I guess what I should have asked is:

Is it best to be there the third week of June or the second week of August? Thanks again.

I was there last week of June & part of first week of July in 2008. Think it was a high snow year, fair amount of postholing on the hike in. Anyway, weather sucked - rain / snow most of the time. We only got on a couple shorter routes when the precip occasionally cleared.

I've been there 3 times- Late July, early August, and the first weekend in September. I've been lucky with weather every time. I think August is pretty solid, but your options might be limited depending on how much snow has melted by then. The B-S col could get sketchy. My guess is that June is a bit early and your odds would be worse than August.

I was there on the third week of July a few years ago and hit perfect weather. Although that doesn't mean much as the weather is so variable. The advantage of going earlier is that the lake up near Applebee is still frozen and you can walk across it. Also the cols are usually in better shape with soft snow vice hard ice found later in the year. But again...you conditions may be different dependent on the weather and amount of snow that year. Even if you run into some nasty weather you can usually knock off some closer climbs on Crescent Tower and get up and down between weather. The place is so beautiful that even that is worth the trip.

We were there the second week into June a few years ago and it had just snowed like crazy for a week or two... Snow conditions were treacherous-avalanches all day, etc. The ranger said even if it hadn't snowed-it was still a bit early (weather activity is even more unpredictable than normal)...

If you go-make sure you chicken-wire your car (there should be rocks/logs and wire in the main parking lot). Those marmots will chew through your break lines... We got sticks and tried to get a marmot out from someones (the only other car in the parking lot) wheel well, they are MEAN.

Getting there is a BITCH. We had a crappy SUV with tons of gear and there were deep ruts all over the road and we kept bottoming out... even going 5mph! Not to mention the cows laying down in the road. It was quite the experience just getting there.

Totally worth it-just be prepared for an adventure/carry some extra supplies.

Good Luck!
