Hey all, I'm heading down to central Maryland to spend a couple nights camping with some buddies and I was wondering if anyone could suggest some good possible locations. I noticed that you can't drink in state parks down there but I was wondering if anyone had any luck finding some secluded primitive sites in state forests? If so, are there restrictions on campfires? We'll probably be able to hold off if we have no choice, however, so if you have any suggestions please let them fly!
We are picking someone up in south central MD so areas down that way would be preferred. Going with non-climbers so proximity to rocks not required but always nice.
Yeah, sorry for the vagueness, I just needed to confirm where exactly he lived. It's Frederick, MD, and we don't have too much time to spend driving, so places within an hour or so from Fredericks are preferred (although we would drive a bit further if it's really worth it)
It's an hour north of Frederick. There's a great crag there. If you hike a half-hour downstream (south I think) from the hermitage cabin, there's a nice AT shelter, or just camp a little further up, nearer to the cliffs.
Annapolis Rocks is a 20 minute drive and an hour hike up the AT from Frederick. Back country camping at the top of some of the best rock in the state, a spring for water, great views.
