I am planning a trip up to the glorious Whites next week with intentions of hitting Cannon, Whitehorse and Cathedral. I am curious what the recent conditions have been like. Is there snow at Cannon? Are there any routes/areas that I should expect to find wet this early in spring? What have overnight temperatures been like? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Much of the South side of Whitehorse has been dry for weeks. I did hotter than hell/inferno two weeks ago and never came across any water on the rock. Trails were drying up nicely too.

Personally, I would stay away from Cannon in the early Spring, to avoid serious rockfall danger.

I would echo Mark's advice, definitely wintery up in Franconia this week, too. It's been below freezing overnight all week in the valleys (Cathedral and Whitehorse), a little snow on the ground some mornings, but gone by noon. Haven't been by in the past week or so, but would imagine there is lot of water on Cathedral still. Humphreys and, like Joseph said, the south side of Whitehorse are typical early season spots.

Hey all,

Thanks again for the reply to this post. We had some pretty good days at Cathedral and Whitehorse in that first week of April, but it was indeed cold and Cannon would have been a poor choice. With Memorial Day weekend coming up, I am again setting my gaze toward the Whites.

Anyone have any feedback on how Cannon will be for Memorial Day weekend?

Much Appreciated.
