why mastercams?

I heard this summer but it would make much more sense to unveil them next spring. Especially with the recent release of the new Aliens and Basics

You mean the thread where you broke a TCU misusing it and then tried to play it off as Metolius's fault?

It was a Mastercam thread about defective cam stops and you brought it back from the dead so you could post a picture of your broken TCU. You didn't "say", you "inferred". The same exact clownish shit as right now.

lol ... so yr inferring now ... posting about a thread where people have issues about mastercams and TCUs is clownish ... did you call ryan williams here clownish when he posted his issue about his blown tcu in the same thread ...

someone asked about mastercams and i simply pointed to another thread ...

did ya read "Guideline #1: don't be a jerk" ;)

im "inferring" you didnt =P

id say this is VERY relevant to the discussion from another "clownish" poster ...

I recently had a cam stop failure on my purple master cam as well. It was bought when the master cams first came out. The good folks at rock and snow got on the horn with metolius they sent them some pics of the cam stop/heads and i got a new cam. The new lobes are the major difference. The lobes are now smooth. According to metolius the grooved lobes weakened the milled stop and was a design weakness effecting both the purple and grey. My question now is my 00/grey hasn't failed yet but i dont feel like waiting till it does. Will metolius take back a unbroken cam that they havent officially recalled?

Sure, except you didn't have a cam stop failure. You took a lead fall on a 5kn TCU. The cam stop issue on the Mastercam was resolved quite a while ago but if the OP buys NOS gear he should be able to see if he has an old unit and Metolius will fix it...assuming he doesn't take a lead fall on 00 and expect a free warranty repair.

Just admit it, your feelings are hurt Metolius doesn't have a no questions asked warranty and you're running them down because of it.

awww ... poor babiiii ... youd rather call people clownish than have relevant information out there

perhaps you can quote where i asked metolius for a new cam? ... i just took it to mec and they gave me a c3 ... but then youre not to happy about retailers having warranties are ya ;)

so yr saying metolius will give him another cam should he get one of the "defective" ones that havent been recalled ... even without a fall or it "breaking" ... is that an official line ... do you work for metolius .... hmmm

perhaps you can give us the exact production dates of those mastercams with the known issue ... and confirm they ONLY affect the mastercams ...

Metolius has replaced defective cam stops free of charge (it's right in the link you posted), feel free to call them. I don't work for metolius but rather than rely on second or third hand information I spoke with them directly. I know, it's a novel concept in this day and age.

from mr herrington ...

I also climbed on a purple mastercam that had a snapped-off cam stop.

The cam stops on Master Cams are necessary for the cam to work in any mode. The spring curls around the cam stop and without it in place, there is no spring tension.

It was on a friend's rack we were using for the day, the piece was quite new, and he said he couldn't figure out how it had broken since he hadn't weighted the piece yet.

I didn't realize that cam was broken until I went to place it and noticed that half of the lobes didn't expand after I pulled the trigger.

Metolius's response was basically that damage happens to small and finnicky gear, and they had no way to ensure I hadn't abused the gear, which is obviously all true. They weren't going to replace it.

perhaps you can absolutely and utterly confirm the affected dates, and that metolius will replace even certain "undamaged" mastercams which according to one poster they know have an issue ... and whether it ONLY affects mastercams ...

The issue is/was with 0 and 00 Mastercams. Metolius changed the shape of the cam stop. When I spoke with Metolius they said if I have a problem they'd take care of it, some people report that to be the case and some don't. The number of reports seem to be minor.

Do you think your TCU was deffective? If so, why?

did i say it was defective ... did i ask for a new one from metolius ... did i say it was "unsafe" in any way ... if so please provide the quote

fact ... i simply provided a reference on this thread to another thread where quite a few posters, many respected, had issues with their mastercams/tcus for whatever reason

fact ... this is VERY relevant to the discussion as this is about mastercams

fact ... NEVER ONCE did i call the tcu defective or state it was metolius fault, nor did i "demand" a new TCU from them as you clearly said ... i simply pointed out as mr williams did that i had one fail ... and i bought it from MEC to save having to deal with the manufacturer ... maybe were all clowns ;) ... i personally still have and old grey TCU and newer blue UL TCU on my rack ...

fact ... at least one poster indicated that metollius knows about the issue, and at least one well respected poster indicated that metolius did not take care of them ... obviously this is contrary to yr statement that metolius will "take care of it" ... since they admitted the issue will they take care of anyone with the problem cams before they break?

fact ... yr the one whos going off about referring to that information as "clowning"

im still waiting for yr exact knowledge of the dates and exact cams that are affected ... as well as if theyll replace the "defective" ones that haven broken yet ... since yr obviously knowledgeable enough about the issue to call referring to it as "clowning" =P

Five emotional paragraphs instead of three sentences...got it.

OP, call Metolius if you have any questions. The Mastercam may or may not be for you. Some people like them and some don't but there's tons of options so don't get too hung up.
