Jim Beam Rye is the best bang for your buck. Mix it with anything and you will have to give up your Man card.

Wilsons "That's All" whiskey for when the bank-account is hurting, and any scotch for when it's not. I agree with Simon, mixes are a waste of time. Especially in winter...the burning sensation is quite nice.

Also, you can't beat Stewart's brand "Mountain Brew Beer Ice," for 2.99 a six pack. As many 'adults' say, it's an acquired taste.

Sounds disgusting, but there's actually such a thing as a backcountry beer concentrate: backpackinglight.com/cgi-bi…

Another vote for Yukon. My 'licker store quit carrying it so I'm boycotting them. Love my 'Jack in the backcountry.

Just get some alcohol powder if you're trying to travel light. Everything tastes better when camping, right?

The ultimate backpacking booze solution: Backpack to a place where "little streams of alcohol come a tricklin' down the rocks"

Pros: Supply virtually infinite
No added weight to carry

Cons: The Big Rock Candy Mountain is a completely imaginary place

If you can point me to the alcohol stream there, I would thank you kindly.

Isn't the fact you're breathing in campfire smoke make the flavors in Laphroaig redundant? It already tastes like you're drinking water that pooled in the firepit from the night before. In a good way, though.

Gotta love that smokey peaty Islay. Learned about Laphroaig in a Scotch bar in Edinburgh. Once on a multiday hike in NC with the fam came upon a newly tapped keg of Heineken behind a tree at a campsite. Like some kind of dream.

While there's something smooth and relaxing about sipping your favorite scotch/bourbon/whiskey as the sun sets, nothing replaces a good margarita at the end of a hard day. Brittany Griffith laid this recipe on me before she went over to the dark side and started drinking PBR. Poor lass...

Mountain Margarita (Gatorita)
1 part mixing tequila (I like Cuervo Gold)
1 part Lemon/Lime Gatorade
Glacier ice

Instructions:
Mix...Drink

Buy the powdered stuff. It's a bit sweet for some so thin out the mix or,better, a big squeeze of lime to brighten it up. If you're really saving weight, that tequila LimeSalt can help and weighs nothing. It comes in small packets.

Drink on,
Mal

One note is that Cuervo Gold is vile - Cuervo Tradicional or Sauza Hornitos is so much better for not much more money.

If you're carrying all that other crap on your back, you might as well pack something good. We used to haul in a flask of gin, a little plastic bottle of vermouth and some olives. Nothing finer than rolling out the ensolite and kicking lakeside with a martini in hand after a good day bagging a peak.

How do you think they make it that color? Hint: It aint gold.

I think again here, as with JohL's thread about disposing of approach shoes, we need to just develop the intercontinental ballistic alcohol and shoe delivering device (IBASDD).

I agree with all who said that a high-quality bourbon, Scotch or tequila can be sipped 'neat' and requires no mixers, thus giving you your highest alcohol/weight ratio. And a high-quality stainless steel water bottle like a Klean Kanteen is ideal for carrying spirits into the backcountry.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
