So I am moving to Fairbanks at the beginning of may. So I will be in need of someone to show me around the local climbing areas and hopefully a pretty regular climbing partner. Have car and rack , will trade beer for the showing around part. Thanks in advance.
Oh yea I prefer trad and I have not done any multiple pitch climbs, but I am willing to go anywhere in Alaska and try my hand at anything within my limits. Lead 5.9 trad follow .10
Guess we'll both find out. I hear Beaver Sports sells a climbing guide to the fairbanks area...imthink there's some good ice just south in delta too alaskaiceclimbing.com/
Fairbanks is awesome... if you're willing to put in the time to get anywhere. We have some truely fantastic climbing in the state; particularly if you have an adventurous streak. Rock climbing locally around fairbanks is limited, with one main sport/toperope/a bit of trad area (Grapefruit Rocks) being the most popular. Angel Rocks and Granite Tors also have some established climbs. For scarey multi-pitch trad on kitty-litter granite, check out Mt. Prindle.
If you're willing to travel/fly in anywhere, there is no end to the climbing oppurtunities.
Ice, alpine and mixed climbing is unending...
The University of Alaska Fairbanks has a pretty good student alpine club (they put out the little climbing "guide books") and it's another good place to find partners. sites.google.com/a/alaska.e…
The university also has an indoor and outdoor rock climbing wall, as well as an outdoor ice climbing wall during the winter and early spring. Great place to meet fellow climbers.
Feel free to PM if you want more info on fairbanks as a whole or the climbing scene. I'd be happy to get out on the rock with you at some point.
Sounds good to me ... I'll pm you once I get an Alaska phone mumber.Turns out I'll be there a bit earlier,27th April. Can't wait to check out the local rock. And break into multicpitch
