The thread about grumpy camp hosts at RR has made me wonder how strict they are about the 8 car limit at group sites. Does anyone have any experience with this particular issue? I'll be heading down with a big crew this weekend and there's a possibility that we have more than 8 cars. Thanks

The new camp hosts are quite nice, and one is a climber. That said, they have to do their jobs. The local community has been working hard to develop a good relationship with the BLM, and we would appreciate folks playing by the rules and not jeopardizing what we have put a lot of time into. Edit again: Do not carpool from Albertsons. That suggestion has been deleted after reading Andy's experience. Edit: After reading the last few post on the Zombie-thread, it sounds like they are making it a point of being accommodating. Rather than any of us jumping to any conclusions, just drop by and say hi and they may be able to work things out.

The campground manager saw my post and called me to give me info on how to best deal with the situation. We're not trying to jeopardize your relationship with the BLM smassey, we just want to climb. Thanks for the [somewhat backhanded] input.

I would be weary of how long you leave your car at Albertson's if you opt for the carpool route that Scott has illustrated. The security does patrol the area and will try to enforce a no overnight parking rule. The other day a friend and I were hanging near his van after a day of climbing when we were approached by security. Because I had an open alcoholic beverage is primarily why they approached us, but they also wanted to remind us that there is no overnight parking at Albertson's and cars have been towed before. Perhaps it would be in your best interest to call the BLM and see what options are available for you and your friends with more than 8 cars. [Edit: saw you posted while I was writing this]

Sean, I don't see Scott's input as being backhanded. You asked, and he's telling you like it is. It sounds like you worked things out directly with the CG host - which is exactly what Scott advised.

Sean- no offense intended. I apologize if I appeared rude, or jaded from dealing with too many climbers (and others) who do whatever they want, damn the consequences to the local community. Andy- thanks for that beta. I didn't know about the no overnight parking rule. I will adjust my previous post accordingly.

Looks like we've got it figured out between a second group site for a few nights and maybe some carpooling or extra individual sites the one other night. Thanks for the input, I do appreciate it.

Wal-Mart allows overnight parking. Consider car pooling from there- though there may be more derelict behavior going on in that parking lot than Albertson's...

Red rock casino parking garage for a carpool. They have security and 24 hour surveillance. Cars are always there so no worries of getting towed for an overnight parking violation.
