Hey all, I'm in the process of working up some draft signage related to rock climbing at North Table Mountain. The signage will be directed at the non-climbing public and will be something of a "Top 10" list of things not to do around climbing areas for both the safety of climbers and non-climbers alike. It will also be an effort to limit conflict between climbers and non-climbers. Some obvious things come to mind like, "don't throw objects off of cliffs", but I'm looking for input from the community as a whole in regards to what you might want to convey to the non-climbing public. Any input is appreciated, and I fully expect a little jocularity, but keeping it on topic would be appreciated as I fully intend to implement good suggestions. Thanks for your time, Mike Morin Park Ranger Jefferson County Open Space

-Please do not urinate at the base of the cliffs. -Please do not walk around at the edge of the cliff. You may kick loose rocks on to those below.

Put in a warning about not climbing without the proper gear and instruction, etc.

One thing that would be good to put out there is to pack out/pick up your trash (e.g. toilet paper). Maybe it's the wind blowing things around. There seems to be a correlation with the increase in non-climber traffic and more trash evident, though certainly some belong to climbers, too. Some of the interaction issues that I have seen have been related to the narrow/limited space where folks walk and climbers set up near the base of climbs. We climbers have gotten used to being the dominant user group up there. We've gotten used to yelling climbing commands, cleaning off routes, leaving stuff lying around, and having our dogs run around off leash. I'm not sure how to approach this, but having some understanding about different user groups having different needs/behaviors might be useful. FWIW, I think telling non-climbers not to pee at the base of cliffs will not be well taken, since we climbers tend to pee within a short distance of the base of the cliffs.

"ROCK!!" means something is falling, so look out. If you do knock something off the top of a climbing area, yell "ROCK!!" (This might not be warranted at Table, the routes are so short by the time you hear it, it's already on the ground, but it's all I could think of.)

I had my Irish on last night, this morning noticed everyone else was being serious. I'll re-construct: Do not feed the climbers Do not make eye contact Keep your daughters in the car They fart on purpose Tips are appreciated Warning: obscenities ahead

Lots of good suggestions for the actual question, and I don't have any to add. But a related one, if there is an issue with non climbers up top: Some trail signage for the trails up top might be good. I haven't been on the loop up there in a while (from the other Table Mt. trailhead), but it was easy to get off route and onto a trail across the top of the climbing area. I believe the trail is supposed to be a bit north of there.
