Loss to the climbing community!

But, as others agree, it's like storing your silverware in your clothes closet; it's just out of place, being in a campsite like that. nicholas bujak wrote:If it keeps Pat away maybe I'll sprinkle some of my dads ashes around.Don't waste your dads ashes on a troll! Well you don't know him, so please keep your 2 cents to yourself. |

Thanks Ryan and JB. Yes I feel bad about letting my dog get hit by a car. Wow there are some jerks on here. By the way this thread was long to start with cause people really connected to this dog and he was always out climbing. Yes even Winslow wall. Perspective? My perspective is that a bus accident full of dead school children would not affect me as much as my dogs death. Do I really have to explain? |

Why are people being asses for the sake of being asses? If what you're saying isn't something you would honestly say to Nic's face then you are being a nob. This is not a Colorado or NM issue so why even bother? Perhaps stop posting about things not affecting you and go do some fingerboard training for those five minutes? |

Sorry Man, I feel ya... |

Sorry to hear about your loss. It seems Duke was an awesome friend and pooch. Looks like he had a good life and some great buddies. |
|
So sorry for your loss-I'm sure you are devastated (I know I would be if this happened to my dog). Go easy and keep life simple while you heal. |
|
I'm sorry about your loss. I would be devastated if my dog passed. That said I question the location of his burial and definitely think the rancher should not be bothered. |
|
So very sorry to hear about your loss. |

Eric Krantz wrote:..For the rest of you: he's 4 feet deep. The only issue would be if there was a public water supply well right next to him and a high water table. But it doesn't appear to be that way, does it? You have dead things all over your body. Get used to it.Perhaps when you're completely ignorant of the actual issues, you should keep your opinions to yourself? Curt |

Sorry to hear about your dog. Unless you have had a companion as loyal, protective, smart, funny, and beautiful as a dog can be than you wont understand the feeling of loss that comes when they die. I am also sorry that there are a bunch of cold motherfuckers on this site who are more concerned about some perceived inconvenience than the well being of fellow climbers. I really doubt that burying a dog would create any issues compared with people camping, climbing, hanging out, eating, shitting, and pissing all over the place which is what climbers normally do. If there are access issues with this area it is because of the climbers not because someone buried a dog near the "climbers" preferred camp site. Funny that people would throw out so many negative |

And should this area become closed to climbing, it will be people just like you standing around completely befuddled and wondering how in the world this could have happened. |

Duke watching me climb at Owens River Gorge. He was concerned about the hanging belay over the water.
Dukes climbing trips Ontario - Lionshead, Mount Nemo, Rattlesnake and other areas New Hamshire - Rumney. North Conway - can't remember the crag name. New York - Gunks and surrounding areas as well as Poko Moonshine., West Virginia - New River Gorge Utah - Hell i dont remember at least 4 areas near Sandy and Indian Creek, Wall Street, Jahman tower etc., Colorado - Bastille and other cliffs, Damn I'm getting old can't remember names., Az- too many to name. Where has he not been?, Cali- Yosemite, Riverside, J-tree, Tahquitz and Suicide, Echo cliffs, Malibu Ceek, few more areas that I don't remember the name. The places he ran with me as I biked are also countless. I've had people remind me how much they missed him from USA, Canada, Poland, and Taiwan. We all should aspire to climb as much and to have as many friends as this dog. Anyone messes with the grave I will be an a-hole and I will talk to the rancher. That is a threat. Love the area but f**k access if you mess with my kid. Let me deal with this problem my way or talk to me and I will be reasonable. 'You're in my cool-aid and you don't even know what the flavor is". If you've never been to the Homestead or seen where the dog is buried its none of your business. If its private land even more so its none of your business cause you should not be camping there anyway. Your negative comments really just got me to be stubborn and say f-U. Man there is a reason why animals are generally loved more than most humans. If you are trolling the mountain project message boards and feel you have to leave negative comments about issues that don't concern you get a life. Stop watching internet porn and get out climb something, make some friends, develop social skills. Don't take pointers from our friend Pat. He is respected for how hard he climbs and that is it. Pat you knew this issue was going to get solved internally but you put it on blast here. Way to go hero. I gave the kid multiple chances cause he is awkward but it goes beyond that. The guy is a jerk. He has been convincing us of that slowly one person at a time. Pat you lost a few mor friends here today. Go climb another 13. I repeat Pat anyone messes with that grave I will rebuild it and go to the rancher to ask for official permission. Sorry this just got under my skin when I realized how upset this was getting some people. |

I really hope you were able to get some good rest last night man! |

Let me deal with this problem my way or talk to me and I will be reasonable. This problem suddenly became bigger than just you and your deluded sense of entitlement when pictures of the huge rockpile grave were posted to this site. Grow up! And for god's sake please don't get another dog until you do. You're not the only climber that has lost his canine friend, yet no one else has buried them in the middle of their favorite campground expecting the entire community to be happy about it. |

nicholas bujak wrote:My perspective is that a bus accident full of dead school children would not affect me as much as my dogs death. Do I really have to explain?First, sorry about your loss. It's always sad to lose a companion like that for sure and I hope the memories of your times with Duke stay fresh for many years to come. But... (and I'm not trying to be a jerk so sorry in advance) if you can have this attitude about a school bus full of innocent human beings (maybe even as loving and innocent as Duke), then you should be able to understand how other's concerns with access and such are the main issue to them. I don't think anyone's attacking you. With respect to Duke, maybe it's that they just feel like you do about the bus. Maybe not really worth it to lash out like this but hey, we all grieve in our own way. I'm in CA and it's none of my business so I'll leave it at that. Again, sorry for your loss homie (and to your lady as well). |

I repeat Pat anyone messes with that grave I will rebuild it and go to the rancher to ask for official permission. Sorry this just got under my skin when I realized how upset this was getting some people.I've lost 6 "best friends" throughout my life. It never seems to get easier. However, I've never thought it appropriate to bury any of them someplace that was often used by other people, post pictures of the grave on a very public website and then threaten others for pointing out that what you did was kinda stupid. At first I felt sorry for you and thought that maybe because of the shock of your dog getting hit you simply made a bad decision. The last post confirms my suspicions that I was incorrect. You have a bloated sense of self worth and have no idea how to grieve for the loss of your friend in a healthy constructive manner. Instead, you've decided to take your frustrations out on the internet and yell at anyone that thinks you made a poor choice. If you don't want people to comment then perhaps you should STOP POSTING TO THIS THREAD? Internet grieving makes me want to puke anyway. I'm sure your dog was great and everyone that met him loved him. No one else gives a shit. Get over it. I'm pretty sure if your little stunt gets this area closed down or affects access in anyway, you will eventually come to give a shit when an entire community of climbers decides you're a selfish prick for putting your emotions of loss and grief before your responsibilities as a climber to respect the land you are on whether it be public or private. You should be ashamed of yourself. As has been stated all ready...please grow up before getting another pet. You're obviously not emotionally mature enough to handle it. Maybe start off with a hamster or a mouse next time. |
