What is this juice fast you speak of?I did this cleanse: slimming.com/blessed-herbs-… I did the full week of only using the detox packets and apple juice and it really changed my outlook on food. To be honest when I was done I was so into every food around I don't think I really lost too much weight but but my idea of portions changed. Before you begin the fasting portion you do a day of 3/4 meals then a day of 1/2 meals and then a day of 1/4 meals. I was blown away when I was doing the 1/2 meals for a day and was completely satisfied. Turns out I over eat just about every meal if I am given the opportunity. |

A public and sincere apology to The Schu . I had no idea the man's resolve was so rock solid . I have no excuse. As a side note - The Schu has been on a bit of a tear throughout all of this season. He still gets around pretty damn well for an old guy. ( I choose to quit while I am ahead -before I once again have to make another public statement begging his forgiveness) You are indeed still my hero G-man . |

Shot up to 210 over the holidays, back down to 204 last reading but a long ways off from 185; which I haven't seen since I got married 18 years ago. |

There are some interesting schools of thought going on here. I like the lack of mud-slinging. Where's DAve Sahalie lurking? |

Holy shit, that is whack, I can't even comprehend. I have no success story for you. Other than I'm not dead yet. |

Some of us fat boys like warming up on 10a's.Just started climbing rock this spring. For what it's worth my grade is on 3-4 months of climbing max total in my life. I agree 10A is no major accomplishment. On the other hand i also do not overate my grade like many just because from time to time i can get a 10D or 11A clean. So blah blah blah. Kidding for real i was just screwing around. None the less i was mostly being a wise ass. Well other than being fat pregidous. I cant lie i have zero tolerance for fatties. |

All Killer No Filler wrote:Anyone got anything positive to report about cleanses, juice fasts, etc? I've fasted for 12 days on nothing but distilled water so you aren't going to freak me out, lay your success stories on me. PS lost almost no weight doing 12 days without food, for those wondering. Weighed 140-ish at 5'10", nothing there to lose back then. Shit got weird, played the sitar (really), hung out and did a lot of meditation and long walks. Best vacation I've ever had. Total rest/rejuvination immersion, all for zero cost. Ya gotta build up to that kinda action though...Also do the Blessed Herbs fast a couple times a year. 2-3 days of cutting food portions till you switch to just apple juice some powdered stuff mostly pyslium husk and bentonite clay for another 7 days. About 2 days in with no food and i literally start to loose my fucking mind. The next five days are serious exercise in mood control. I will mirror what the person above reported above on "food portions". I found i was waaaaaay waaaay over eating. Yes i get the shrinking your stomach thing but we can also really stretch it out "as most of us do"! I am far from a fatty at 5"10 135-150lbs depending but even i was amazed at how much we allow our self to overeat. Being a former pro cyclist i also am fairly well versed in portion control eating for performance and not recreation and still did not realize just how little food the body requires to function properly. Imop what Americans call anorexic i call healthy just remove the emotional mental end of the deal. |

Climbs 3-4 months, leads 10a sport, 8 trad and is talking trash about big guys who warm up on harder. I bet you have some nice shiny carabiners. I bet you shiver your way up 5.8 leads. |

I bet you shiver your way up 5.8 leads. I bet if any of us sat on you, you would be crushed like a little man-boy. ps 'former pro-cyclist', we basically hate you skinny bastards on principle. at 5'10" 150 you have nothing to offer to a 'large climber' discussion. Go starve yourself and be angry. This is not a thread about who is a harder climber is it? I didn't think so. I said i have been climbing rock for 3-4 months. I have been climbing for 3-4 years rock is just one sub sect of climbing. I do have something to offer this thread as i know a thing or two about nutrition and not being a fat fuck! Self control = portion control end of story. Self control and portion control = not having to be a fatty! Don't even have to exercise or eat healthy to be skinny but both sure help a shit ton! You don't wanna be fat you gotta change your relationship with food. Food can not be about enjoying and or a reward or something you look forward to. Food must be purely a functional means to a end. Sounds miserable right. It is till it becomes a habit then the prior just feel nasty!! |

Sounds miserable right. It is till it becomes a habit then the prior just feel nasty!!Maybe I just missed your positive contributions. Seems like you have a found a way to keep your body weight down, but I'm not sure it really 'works' for you if you feel the need to post contemptuous comments about others. Certainly doesn't show a lot of insight into human nature or the genuine difficulty of losing weight AND keeping it off. Taking in fewer calories and maybe exercising more is the recipe for anyone who wants to lose weight. But how to make that work is intensely individual. Pure self-control is ineffective for most, both short and long term. I had some luck carefully observing when and what I ate and minimizing 'social' and 'stress' eating. Other folks have other issues that they are best in position to discover. Maybe you're actually a PhD nutritionist, up on the latest studies, in which case I'd love to hear more. But my impression is that you have a narrow background in cycling and haven't recognized that there's more to the story. Actually, even in the latter case, I'd still appreciate hearing your insights, as long as you can drop the gratuitous insults. |

I'm in that boat, looking for some other folks to check in with on a regular basis. I can diet for a while, but after a few months, tend to flounder on my own. We could even incorporate some climbing goals. Thoughts? Two words-Stevie Haston. Read his blog, get inspired, get fit, make it fun. Climb with joy. |
