Two points to make here:

1) It's the Springs...Expecting normalcy in the Springs is like expecting morality in Vegas.
2) Based on your contributions to MP Ellenor, and if they at all reflect your actual interpersonal skills, I'm somehow not at all surprised climbers don't want to give you the direct beta to access their super secret ice-climbing gem.

Try a new tact; a 6 pack and a belay offer have always worked for me. Calling them "crusty oldtimers" is not going to get you far, especially since they are the keepers of the information you seek.

First off, no need to make fun of the Springs. This town is way more normal than Denver/Boulderites tend to think. Not to mention stuff like this happens evvvvveeerywhere in the climbing community.

Also, I'm not even an ice climber and I've been offered to be taken up there numerous times, so I don't know what OP did wrong. Six pack and a belay is in fact probably the right tact to take here.

There ya go again...

The Springs community of climbers are among the most friendly and helpful people I've been around. Perhaps it is your approach you should reconsider...

So I found myself with some time to go check it out having only a slight idea where I'm going....so after two tedious hours of bushwhacking I came up emptyhanded. I've seen the pictures on mountain project as well as followed the arguments under the comments section. I've climbed ice all over the Rockies for many years and I know a gem when I see it, aside from being in close proximity to Colorado springs why does this have to be kept a secret? I though MP was a community of climbers...very rarely do I see climbs posted on MP with no directions. WTF Coloado Springs??? ( u know who u are)

I personally enjoy wild foods...maybe she's a vegetarian, but she "has beef..."

I'll take you there. It's no secret anymore. Better get on it quick. If this weather keeps up, it won't be there much longer.
Lay off bad mouthing CS climbers though.

So could you post the directions you did get on how to find it? We can tell you if they intentionally are misleading.

It took me two tries to finally find it myself and I live here. It took two trips to find the Martyr, too.

Maybe it's not you, I heard they moved the climb with their secret powers

Compared to folks from my neck of the woods, I think Springs climbers are quite 'normal'. It's funny that this topic finally came up, I've always said how I appreciate the ability of the community down there to keep quiet about their climbing. I've done a lot of investigation and a lot of wandering around and been rewarded for it in spades with great climbs and meeting great people. So keep up the good work down there and the riffraff will stay in the interwebs.

Wow. Talk about a a sense of entitlement. Boo f'n hoo. The locals want to keep it a secret. Get over it.

This reminds me of when I had heard of a network of mtn bike trails kept on the downlow that some Ned locals had established. I caught wind of the trails online, looked over maps, and pieced together what beta I could and spent many days riding the area to no avail. While I never found the goods, I had a great time exploring. But I never got pissed at the locals for keeping their trails a secret. If you've been riding mtn bikes on the front range for long enough, you've seen what happens to the best trails - it's the tragedy of the commons. The gems need to be kept secret. Same goes here, and this place doesn't even seem all that secret.

But what if Greg was asking without any irony? He actually wants to know.

Did you actually look up hully gully here on mp? Or do you just feel like running your gob whining about how one person sent you on a wild goose chase? Is it that time of the month ? Maybe you should stay home n eat chocolate n take copious amounts of your favorite pms medicine .

Hully gully is no seceret it is so easy to find its silly. I suggest you go back n read carefully the beta on it here at mp I even posted a couple years back how easy it is to find .

Ya know maybe some of the locals are tired of some people treating this resource like there own personal top rope area and are quite fed up with making the hike down there only to find a bunch of ice bashing noobs swinging around like tards beating the crap out of the ice I've been there several times when there has been steps kicked into the right side all the way to the top!

When I first moved to CS 8 years ago I was introduced to hully gully by one of the locals
We had a blast climbing there .

Ya know if you wasnt such a douche bag n pulled that stick out of yer ass Got over your
Woe is me bullshit N asked one of us locals nice, hell I'd bet any one of them would have taken you there.

you've been climbing for many years all over the rockies and this is the first time you've had to bushwhack for 2 hours?! you shouldn't be complaining. you should be celebrating the fact that you've been the member of a special club.

Little respect can go a long way. Colorado springs isn't weird, honestly in my limited dealings with both towns Boulder seems stranger, there is this thing every spring about sun dresses, little overwhelming. Regardless, be friendly and patient and some bad ass local Ice guru could take you up there.

Just my 2cents.

You may have walked right past it, the only real climbing on it goes for just a couple feet

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
