Cheap Lodgings near Crawford Notch

Does anyone know of a cheap hostel or other roofed lodging near Crawford Notch? I usually just camp when I'm making a multiday trip over there, but this time my girlfriend is coming and I'd rather have a warm bed to stay in so she doesn't dump me. I see there are many resort-types near N. Conway, but that sounds a bit high-brow for me.

Thanks,
Mike

Twin mtn area has some stuff, and you can find some good deals in N Conway

The AMC Highland center is right there at the notch...I think it's fairly pricey though I'm not sure. It's dorm-style.

Like NHtrailblazer said...check out twin mtn. I stayed (though did not pay for) at a place there that was pretty cool...like these little cabins with a kitchen. Right at the Junction, Rt 3 and 302. Perfect for a night with the gf.

Town of Barlet has a couple of motels that you can check out. How much are you looking to spend? Schoolhouse Motel is around $70 a night.

The Colonial in North Conway is cheap, super clean, friendly, and has a special where you get a free night if you stay two. Love it. Schoolhouse is also good.

I have stayed twice in the White Mountains Hostel in Conway (it's the only hostel I am aware of in the area). It's not terribly far from Crawford Notch. If you have more than one person, though, you may be able to get a room cheaper in North Conway if you shop around (not to mention avoid others who may snore). I think it runs at $35 a night. If you're going there with your significant other, it may be a good call to get a room in Conway.

Interesting side story... My friend and I were there over New Years and some amazingly drunk locals woke me up at 3AM yelling outside. I walked out to find a fair amount of blood on the ground and it quickly escalated so we called in law enforcement. I'm not sure why they chose that spot to settle their aggression -- it's not like the hostel is in a bad part of town. Still, an interesting story.

While at Flatbread the server told us that Freddie Wilkinson and his wife had eluded to having the desire to open some sort of climbers lodge. I wonder if that will ever go through or if it's just speculation and rumor.

I stayed at the AMC Highland Lodge just after it opened a few years ago - nice place and you have access to the stocked gear room. The other place have stayed is the Intervale Motel in North Conway. Clean, basic, and they don't grumble when you spread your ice gear out to dry. I just booked a night there: 2 queen beds, $85 w/tax.

Yes the Conway hostel is a bargain, with cooking privileges and [sometimes at least--ck their policy] some hot breakfast. Very pleasant.

Still,Highland Center is right there and if you insist you want the bunkhouse accomodations, it's hard to beat the price with full dinner and full (watch out, you could end up too full) buffet breakfast. When I was there in October they seemed a bit obtuse about offering the bunkhouse, maybe the new desk clerk, maybe eager for the extra bucks.

Just stayed at the villager this weekend. Was a last minute decison but $69 bucks a night for a fairly large room to spread gear out, has a fridge, dinign table, tv, place to hang clothes, 2 queen beds.

If you have a friend or two, it is a very cheap place to stay. Also surprising clean.

Don't stand to close to the heater and make sure you bring your own hot water.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions! I've booked a cottage in Twin Mountain for the weekend so that should be fun.
