Old trad stuff
|
Hey i have some old trad gear from my uncle. I was wondering if it is still usable? I know some stuff will have to be retired, but what can i still use? I have a set of wild country nuts #1-8. 1-6 are attached with wire and 7-8 with cord. I also have 4 hexentric hexes #11,9,8 and 7. These are attached with wire and a set of rp micro nuts #0-5. |
|
Thanks. #0 micro has a fray so i probably wont use that and #5 has a small bend. Is it usable? |
|
Original RP's!! You hit the jackpot in terms of brassies. |

replace the cord on the big guys because of deteriorative effects on nylon, other than that inspect the cable on all the others and if they look good they are. oh there's a fray, dont fall on it, use it for anchors though should hold a ton of weight still (literally) |

in the picture above #5 RP the plastic at the bottom is cracked and the wires exposed. what about that? |
|
That stuff is all bomber. Modern too. When I saw the post I thought you had some Moacs or Tetons. Looks likely to be from the late 80s. Replace the cord and you're good to go! |

Those RP look DANGEROUS! Better send them to me for QC testing... ;-) |

Like the others said, Everything looks good from what I can see, I would just replace the cord and call it good. Climb on. |

Nice wires. RP's are the best, except that zero which I took a fall on one time and it of course ripped ritght out on a fall. Nice brassies for sure. |
|
Yup. I climb on those same nuts. They work. |

The plastic looks like a pinch point from a fall. When you fall on it, the carabiner exerts enough pressure to pinch the plastic, which is why most nuts don't have a plastic sleeve. It's not a big deal unless the fall was a big deal, which is anybodies guess, so... Evan |
