vandalism at Lone Peak

This thread is missing input from land managers. Here goes:

This is not an issue of pointing out that some CLIMBERS are acting with poor judgment to the local management. This is an issue of pointing out that some PEOPLE are acting with poor judgment.

If this happened at Eldo and the first we heard about it was by lurking in a MP thread or one of us happening upon it, after tracking down whomever was responsible and putting them in front of a judge (Mike could always use more court-ordered "volunteers"), we would wonder why the climbing community thought they needed to close ranks on an issue that is one of the reasons rangers exist in the first place - to protect the resource!

"If they dont want to let me know about something that is specifically in my job description, what else do they not want me to know about?"

If you make an effort to reach out to someone else, they are more likely to work with you!

If our office was flooded with calls from climbers telling us about what had happened and who had done it, complete with Twitter posts, Facebook photos, and e-mail conversations with the suspects, it would reinforce our long-standing belief that climbers care about what goes on in our (yours and mine) favorite places and will do everything they can to help us change the behavior of jerks, criminals, the ill-informed, and the stupid.

You may only see rangers at entrance booths and visitor centers, but we're out there hiking and climbing just like everyone else.

Thanks for your reply, Mr. Ranger. Totally agree.

I may have come across as a young hot head but I'm 52 years old and I've learned enough not to hide in the shadows when a couple ignorant asses show themselves. I can't understand people being scared to speak out against this kind of bullshit. Kudos to Shiho for standing up.

Mountainsense, your efforts are greatly appreciated, no doubt. How about these guys get a strong invitation to participate in the cleanup?

Besides the damage these guys seem capable of doing on their own, I have to wonder if these guys are passing their values on to others, e.g. their kids or through scouting. Would like to see this nipped, and that doesn't happen if they're not engaged.

Un-fucking believeable.

Clackmon's post seemed like a fairly reasonable response taking objection to a few things some other anonymous Internet poster said. If that causes you to spew super inciteful posts like that, try looking at a yahoo comment thread; it'll make your head explode!

Piss and moan piss and moan......
While everyone has been on here bashing everyone from the "Bags that Douche" who tagged the summit, to every day climbers and hikers, Shingo is most likely up there right now scrubbing the writing off.
Meanwhile I'll be down in Maple where I don't need a guide book because all the routes have the grade etched in chalk underneath them.

WHY??

that person should post their name .
if they dont want their name out there, they should expect people to speak to them like they were just joe shmo.

even if they were "somebody" people still have the right to express the way they see things.

no reason to "shame" someone.

I agree with ddrivers post. lead by example!

Uh yeaaa I would be embarrassed. There are a few people in this world who know a shit load more than you and I and mountainsense is one of them. It's called respect and there are times when you should just listen and take what someone says seriously.

I once badmouthed your mom on the internet but she was posting under a pseudonym, making it impossible to guess that she knew a shit load more than me in this world. Should I feel really embarrassed too?

Retart.

You guys seem like a classy bunch. I'm surprised you don't get more respect.

A respectful message has been sent to the alleged pair; this particular issue can be handled by our local climbing community, and does not--in my own opinion--need to involve the Pleasant Grove Ranger District. Don't get me wrong, this bums me out--I can safely say--more than any other human being on the planet with respect to the amount of time I've put in there, but I would prefer not to allow the internet to escalate a situation that can easily be dealt with privately, and diplomatically. Shingo

--- This is a post from earlier in the thread in which a mr.mountainsense reveals his identity... such as my mom probably did to you.

And Shingo is right... what ruins access is when we get the authorities involved. These hikers made a mistake and judging by the thread they knew they made a mistake.

Colorado ruins a Utah thread yet again.

Utah individuals created the issue, and Utah individuals have resolved the issue. Your 2 cents falls on deaf ears. Eldo Ranger however has spoken with poise, and clarity. Showing by experience, and example how to go about dealing with issues happening within park boundaries.

Wish I could have been up at the clean up guys. Thanks for the hardwork!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
