so my partner and I picked up an A5 double ledge. its in pretty good condition, but it has a small tear in the fabric. nothing big, like a 1/2" slice in the middle of one of the beds. I could see this easily getting alot bigger if it gets caught on anything or whatnot, so I figure its best to fix it before we launch our first wall in zion. Should we break out the needle and thread or will something like gorilla tape or just duct tape handle it? I know there are professionals that repair things like this, but I don't think its big enough to warrant paying for it. Small tears like this have got to be somewhat common, so how do you deal with em?

I would just repair it with some xgrid dyneema or diamond rip stop. Make sure the patch is larger than the rip. You could also seal the nylon ends with a match, stich the tear back with some zig-zag followed by seam gripping the crap out of it. Then patch it. Best bets is to stich on a machine and not by hand if you have one.

I would take it to Stichlines on Broadway. Phylis (sp?) can fix it up like new and she has reasonable rates.
