Anyone in Prescott teach climbing lessons?
|
I live in Prescott, Arizona. I grew up here and I've always hiked, camped, and fished in this town and those around it. I've always dreamed of learning to rock climb. I'm not sure how to go about it... Theres these touristy sites where you can do a half a day lesson for 200 bucks...I want this so bad, I was willing to take a trip to Georgia to train with the only person I know that climbs, my cousin.I'm more looking for a one on one with someone. Anyone out there willing to help me out? Where do I start? |

Not in Prescott, but Jeff Fassett is an AMGA climbing guide based in Tucson. He is an excellent teacher and his rates are quite reasonable. He is also a member of this website, here |

Prescott college has a big rock climbing community. I also might look at Rubicon outdoors, their out of Prescott. |

Swing by Coyote Joe's and talk to Carl. He's a chill guy that knows his way around a bunch of the climbing areas. |

I have an old student who now lives in Prescott, is a good climber and excellent teacher. Her name is Amylee, pop her a note at joy.amylee at gmail.com, tell her Lynne sent you. |

+1 to amylee, and carl they are pretty rad! |

Prescott College has some GREAT instructors. I was in their outdoor leadership program and David Lovejoy and Mike Golf were excellent climbers and instructors.I know they still have excellent climbers today in that program . Call Prescott College for information on guide service/training. |

In Flagstaff, Chris Tatum is fully AMGA certified, and is affiliated with the local climbing gym Vertical Relief. Never was taught by him but I know him personally and he is a great guy and very patient. Their are lots of places locally that would be great venues to learn. |

+2 for amylee |

I suggest Freedom of the Hills and then some of the beginner books from the Mountaineering series depending on what type of climbing you want to dor. That's how a lot of people including myself learned. |

Wow! Thank you all for your help! Your awesome :) |

You could also checkout meetup.com to see if there are any rock climbing groups around. |

Hi Tara... my story sounds a bit like your own... I just got back from lander, Wyo where I participated in the beginners climbing clinic at the 18th International Climbers Festival. I loved the newbie introduction to rock climbing and am hoping to keep learning the ropes here in Prescott (my home)... maybe we could put our heads together and use the information posted to get started :) |
