I am currently climbing at the v6ish range. For bouldering that is. I can climb some v6s and if i work can get most. I cant seem to keep moving forward. I am not getting much closer to that v7. What can i do to help my climbing to help me keep progressing and get over this plateau?

Stop posting stupid questions on the internet and train better?

Seriously dude...step away from the keyboard and go visit your local library or book store. There are about a million good books on training for climbing. Pick one that looks good to you and go with it. They all work if you stick with it. Just climbing more isn't going to get you to where you want to be.

I find it hard to believe you can do most V6s if you work them but can't do any 7s. I'm not a V6 climber but I've pulled a few sevens that suited me/were soft. Might just be a mental block. Grades are SUBJECTIVE.

Stashing your pad may be the answer.

Logan,

What the fuck are you doing online? Shouldn't you be training or reading about training?

Get your ass back to the campus board. That V7 ain't gonna send itself.

BAD idea. Lube is really bad for computers.

Seriously, though, it's probably as much mental as it is physical. Project a 7 that you really like and it will probably come together for you. Also possible that what's holding you back is technique not strength/power. Working something new/different for a while might bounce you out of your rut.

Why don't you just stop worrying about grades and climb more. I personally think bouldering grades suck, it is too subjective/arbitrary. You will probably climb better if you don't know the grade, you will not have that mental block of, "oh, I've only climbed a problem of this grade before, so this problem is gonna be really hard because it's a higher grade."

I was at that stage a couple years ago, and my best advice is to forget about grades and just enjoy climbing, you will get better if you take this approach. If you have limited time to climb, then by all means train I guess. But the only way your going to progress in climbing is to climb more, oh and polish the fuck out of your footwork and movement.

climb with people who are better than you!

It may seem trivial, but the single best thing you can do to get better at climbing, bouldering specifically, is to climb with people that are better than you. If you climb V6 you should find some other climbers that are at least V8/9 climbers. This will force you to climb harder and to see little techniques, tips and training that those climbers employ. The other thing to do is pull ups. Off set pull ups for lock off strength and different grips for finger and contact strength.

Good luck!
