Some of my buddies and i are looking to take a couple day climbing trip this summer. I want to get away from some of the more traditional climbing spots around, maybe a day hike in or some climbing spot fairly isolated. Ideally I would like to find a place we can hike into camp and climb. Any suggested spots. im open to pretty much anywhere. thanks!
Wallface in the Adirondacks. Premier multi-pitch adventure climbing, lean-to close by. Watch out for the black flies and this season the swamps, flooding and rain.
The new Adirondack guide book has a bunch of new climbing areas that are a good hour or two approach where one could make a weekend of it.
Right now i'm waiting for the weather to clear so the rock will dry out so I can get on it.
check out the adirondack rock web site there are new areas not in the book that could be of interest. Shoot me a pm if you wnat more info. Good luck the Dacks are awsome..
Katahdin? Or in the ADKs - Crane Mt, Wallface, Silver Lake, Treadway and Pharaoh Mts. Brush up on your self-rescue skills if you're going "off the map".
Pick up a adk guide book. I personally love the avalanche lake area. There's excellent opportunities for adventure climbing and climbing well established routes.
There's no camping on the easement lands at Silver Lake, so it doesn't qualify for as a hike-then-climb.
On page 629 of Adirondack Rock there is exactly the list of destinations you are seeking. In short, anything in the High Peaks, plus:
Barton High Cliff Good Luck Mountain Washbowl Pond Snowy Mountain Barn Rock Pharaoh Mountain Gore Mountain Long Pond Middle Settlement Lake Grass Pond Mountain Huckleberry Mountain
