We've added Gyms to the site - 855 of them in Canada and the USA. There's not a lot of info about them now, but text and photos will hopefully be added over time.

Users can upload photos to gyms, but for now, they're only editable by Mountain Project folks.

Hey just to add another one to Washington, there is an outdoor rock wall on the waterfront at the University of Washington. I can get some photos and gps location if you like.

Cool feature! I like how the locations all show up on a Google map! (although when scrolling around I did notice that the UCSB climbing wall location marker is not quite in the right spot, it's somewhere up in the mountains, probably closer to real rock than then actual gym...). It would be cool to be able to add comments to these as well...
Cheers,
Cory

Is this a precursor to the Partner Now feature? Would be cool if that feature was also available for the gyms section.

Ha! Nathan, it is a precursor to Partner NOW. We envision a tool where you can specify a gym, a specific rock, or a general area for which you want to find a partner.

We needed all that gym data, so we thought we might as well make some nice pages to serve as a directory or reference.

It's gonna be a great resource.

Nice feature. Glad to see our local gym, the Xtremeplex in Monee, on your list of gyms. This should help locals to find climbers and partners.

Is there going to be a feature to comment on the climbing gyms? I, and others, have had countless bad experiences at our local climbing gym (Kendall Cliffs) and would hate to have it promoted. Nothing like erasing day passes on record, firing all knowledgeable employees, and hiking up prices and taking away all amenities (including the drinking fountain). Oh, and I was already banned at the gym for making a negative comment on the internet so why not make it count. (I warned someone that their instructors are not trained and are constantly corrected during lessons.)

You might add a link so we can suggest any that are omitted: Earth Treks in Columbia, MD is omitted. Its sister gyms in Rockville & Timonium are there, but Columbia isn't.

This gym does not exist.
No gym in South Lake Tahoe.

The gym feature is pretty cool but you should add-in a whole section that allows for users to comment and rate the gyms.

It would be cool if the rating system followed something similar to Yelp. MP users would rate the gyms on given criteria.

-Users/owners can submit specific business info such as open times, types of climbing at gym (Top-Rope, Lead Climbing, Bouldering, etc), amenities at the gym (work-out facilities, day-care, instruction, gear-shop, showers, etc), Prices, etc

-Reviewers can write comments and rate on a number of items such as: Overall Quality, Crowds, Price, Routesetting, Amenities, and maybe others.

-Reviewers would also be able to rate the gym's difficulty/variety (ex: Quantity of Beginner Climbs, Quantity of Intermediate Climbs, Quantity of Advanced Climbs, Quantity of Expert Climbs)

Here is a sample of reviews of the Spot Bouldering Gym: yelp.com/biz/the-spot-bould…

Also maybe a tick-list of gyms visited might be cool add as well.

Then as a future-state being able to sort gyms by rank, different amenities, etc would be great. Mostly because if I look at Colorado there are 49 gyms listed but maybe 10 of those are true climbing gyms and the rest are small walls at REI/rec centers/schools/etc.

This has already been done, and quite well. Maybe MP can improve on it, but check out climbfind.com for gyms around the entire world and partner matching. It will be interesting to see how competition brings out the best in each site. Yeah awesome features on the internet!

Wait, so why can't I add beta about the gyms?
