So there is a really good chance that I'll be living in Sacramento/Sacramento area for the next 6 months and I know nothing about the area. I'd be moving out from NY so I'm trying to figure out what ever I can. Any info on cool places/ things to do would be sweet. Also, I'll be looking for people to climb and mountain bike with!!

there are two mountaineering meetup groups

Sierra Mountaineering Meetup
Bay Area Mountaineering Group

And a local rock climbing meetup:

Sacramento Rock Climbing Meetup (mostly gym but some outdoor climbs)

Well we have the Sierra Nevada in our back yard (Tahoe and Truckee)
Yosemite within a couple hours drive
Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Tuolumne Meadows
Mt. Whitney and all the East Side has to offer ...
The Cascades ie. Shasta and Lassen to the North
The Trinity Alps to the North

It's paradise for a climber ... really is a special place. Don't tell anyone else in NY about it, ok?

haha i cant wait to get out there and check everything out. where can i find more info about the mountaineering groups? i was wondering if it would be worthwhile to bring out my mountaineering gear. I'm also going to be looking for a place to live so if you have any info or suggestions that would be sweet too. thanks

search for sierra mountaineering group and bay area mountaineering group on google or go to meetup.com and find them there

yes! bring you mountaineering gear ... Shasta, Whitney, Lassen, and all the 14ers on the East Side besides good climbs within at Tahoe / Truckee and we've had one heck of a great year; there are so many good snow routes now and throughout the summer ... Yosemite and Tuolumne as well. You'll never be able to do them all so cherry pick the best ones while you're out here. Have fun!
