Description

A secluded crag at the northwest corner of Devil's Lake State Park land. Featuring one of the most unique and largest overhanging features in the park. There is a small amount of cliff that is taller (30 to 35ft) and may be worthy of leading but most stuff is 10ft to 25ft tall.

Rock west of Skillet Creek is on private land. Please stay within park boundaries.

Getting There

The Skillet Creek boulders are most easily accessed through Skillet Creek Campground. The owners have been nice enough to allow climbers to access via their property if they are willing to contact them prior to. Please consider staying there if you are looking for camping opportunities in the area. If the office is open, you can stop in there. Otherwise, please email skilletcreekcampground@gmail.com or call (608) 356-4877 in advance.

A useful map can be found on the Skillet Creek Campground website. Park near the barn out front, and walk to the southeast end of the campground. Access is most easily gained through Campsite 103. Please be respectful of any guests staying at that site by arriving at a reasonable time and asking for permission to pass through. The boulders are not too far south beyond there.

Please note, the rock west of Skillet Creek (Behind Campsite 70) is privately owned and should not be climbed on.

Alternative Approach: Drive along South Shore Rd from the north. After you pass the last house to the west, park next to the first electric pole on the right side of the road. Hike west through the woods for about 20 minutes, heading up a gradual hill and jumping a small creek. If you hit Skillet Creek, you’ve gone too far (See the map in the comments for reference).
