Missing Person: Adam Blanchard- Please Keep An Eye Out in Nevada
|
Melody, are there any active searches going on right now? Or are all the agencies alerted and just hoping to stumble across something at some point? |
|
There is an active search by the Nye County Sherriff's Office but it has been scaled back. |

We received sad news early today. Adam's remains were found Sunday afternoon, June 26, by a search team in Nevada about one-tenth of a mile up a steep hill from where his vehicle was found. We were told that he did have a backpack with provisions with him. It may be a few weeks before everything is processed in Nevada, but we are working on planning a memorial service for later this week in Texarkana. We will let you know when we have more details. We greatly appreciate all your thoughts and prayers throughout this difficult ordeal. |

I've been following the search through the local newspaper out of Tonopah. They've reported that several thousand hours were invested in the search for Adam in severe conditions during this winter and spring. The SAR person who found him happened to spot a "foreign" object only 1/10 of a mile from where Adam's vehicle was found. The foreign object was Adam's pack. The searcher only then realized that Adam's remains were only a few feet away. Apparently, he was dressed in full camo and had covered himself with brush before shooting himself in the head with a camo covered shotgun. I feel for the family and it is most likely a relief to have closure. Considering the conditions for much of the search(high winds and deep snow), it is fortunate that none of the SAR members were injured or worse while giving so much of their time to try and find what they thought was a lost traveler. |

I am really sorry for your loss. If the reports of suicide are correct, that is a horrible end to any person's life. Often people choose permanent solutions for what may be temporary problems, and it's unfortunate they don't realize the number of people who care that they are leaving behind. My condolences for your family. |
