Just a heads up for anyone heading to the Carabiners gym. This is from their FB page.

"Beginning Sunday April 10, there will be limited top rope climbing available. We will be stripping and setting new routes throughout the week in preparation of our USA Climbing competition on Saturday April 16 (see details at carabiners.com/nb_home.htm).

The entire gym will be open again for public top rope climbing after 5:00pm Saturday April 16".

There is some climbing in Freetown State Park which isn't too far from the Cape. www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/southeast/free.htm It isn't great but it's longer than bouldering. The nearest worthwhile (IMHO) climbing is in CT from just over the RI border to central CT. Check out: www.climbri.com

There's always Dighton Rock ! and you may not get arrested. How about bridge climbing at the Canal......

I`ve climbed in the Carabiners in Ct and used my Reverso to belay no problem. I know they only rent out GriGri's but they didnt hassle me about anything. But I did not like the feel of their wall. I`m pretty sure its just plywood with a thinset concrete layer on top or maybe a concrete type paint. When you crank on a hold the wall gives and flexes. Not a fan of it...that goes for both the bouldering and climbing walls

Jeff, have you checked out Beebe Woods in Falmouth. Some internet research indicated "big boulders" out there???

Jeff Squire · · Unknown Hometown · Joined Apr 2009 · Points: 5

I haven't checked out Beebe Woods. I understood that most of the boulders consisted of big rounded stuff that was either too small or very slabby and not really 'climbable'. Would be worth a visit though.....

yeah, next time i'm in falmouth (sometime this summer), I'm going to con the family into a "hike" (read: boulder search mission) at Beebe woods. I will let you know if I find anything...

The people were nice. It just seemed like an awful lot of the routes used reachy crimpy moves to make them harder and they needed to run the holds through a dishwasher. Maybe I was having a bad day, but Olga had the same impression. It would be a big improvement if they did pick up newer holds like you say. It is such a small facility they need to be super on top of cleanliness and route setting.
Mark, someone must have heard you, RIRG (rock spot lincoln) has 600 new holds on order for their upcoming top rope comp. really happy about that.
