Anyone else waiting for a discount coupon to go with that REI Dividend?

Am I the only one? Seems like for years in a row members received an email alerting them to their dividend amount and including a coupon code for 20% off. This year is much more sneaky.

Yeah yeah I know, REI is a souless devil but I'm only in this position (with a positive dividend) because of my REI branded Visa card.

I decided to try out REI for a couple of years here is what I discovered

1. I have to pay them $20 to be a member so I can have some BS privilage to pruchace every day common gear. FU REI

2. they only give dividends to non sale items and those the dont end in _9 or _3 which is like 10% of the sale items are elgiable, so FU REI

3. there prices are just the same as every one else so to get a dividend Im forced to pay full retail. FU REI

4. there are tons of sites and company that give store/dididend like credits on all items including sale items that can be used ANY TIME not just redeemd once a year. so FU REI

5. 80% of the employees are uneducated monkeys that are incapible of answering basics gear questions. so FU REI

I was told that a 20% off coupon will be included with this year's dividend info. Is that not the case.

Jeff:

1) You don't have to pay a membership fee to shop at REI. Just to get a dividend.

2) You can use your REI dividend on any item in the store. It is essentially a store gift card.

3) Pay full retail and get back 10%. I fail to see the problem here...

4) Accepted.

5) Agreed.

1) Right

2) Correct, but they don't give dividend credit for items you purchased on sale. Which is what I think he was saying.

3) In the high-priced domain of outdoor gear, if you're only getting 10% off of full retail, you're not trying hard enough. I think this is what he meant. That's the way I see it at least.

the return policy alone is worth the 1 time 20$ fee. REI=Return Every Item. Dividend and quarterly 20% off any item coupons, garage sales and tons of locations are just icing on top.

and if you're a member REI stands for Return Everything Inc. I know I've returned my fair share of gear that would have been non-returnable other places.

Right, never go into REI asking question. Go armed to purchase. Again though I'd happily pay more if I had a quality smaller store close by. Having said that they do have some knowledgeable employees, it just tends to drop quickly when you get into the climbing department.

Returns are a plus, they do stand behind the products they sell and there CS is a plus on that side of the fence.

Confirmed, coupon is in the mail with the dividend checks and becomes active on 03/18.

I'm pretty sure dividends apply to anything on sale as long its not over 15%, but I may be wrong

The rei credit card is good to have. 5% on op of the 10% you already get. And the 5% is good on any rei purchase. Sale items , rentals , and trips. They sent me a 50 buck gift card just for getting the card.

Plus 1% on all other purchases.

I look forward to it every year. I've had the Rei card for ten years.
"Retail is for suckers", but Deals like this do help. Seek Prodeal from anywhere you can to help purchase the gear you want/need. Look at the Bunny Slope in IC. 10-12 #2's. That is hard on the wallet.
Thanks REI for the dividend. That keeps us loyal.

Here it is from REI:
15% rebate applies to net REI purchases including full-price and discount-price items, REI gift cards, services, fees and REI Adventures travel-invoiced trip payments.

21% rebate applies to net non-REI purchases only. Advances, convenience checks, balance transfers, interest or finance charges and fees, credit insurance charges, or transactions to fund certain prepaid card products such as Visa Buxx® are not eligible.

3Excludes sale/clearance items (prices ending in $._9 or $._3), items discounted 15% or more, gift cards, REI Adventures trips, REI Outdoor School classes and outings, sales tax, postage, mounting, engraving, labor, rental fees and membership fee.

4Offer valid towards an REI Adventures trip when booked within one year of becoming an REI member. One time discount for new members and anyone traveling with the new member providing they reside at the same address and are included on the same invoice. Provide discount code R935 at time of booking. The $100 discount will be applied at time of booking. If you later cancel the trip, you may apply the discount towards another REI Adventures trip or the discount will be deducted from any refund due you. Offer is not transferable and not redeemable for cash. Valid only through REI Adventures. Trips are not eligible for the REI member refund (however, REI Visa cardholders do receive a 5% rebate on REI Adventures invoiced trip payments when purchased with the REI Visa card).

I try my hardest not to pay even close to full retail but sometimes it's unavoidable. What are you gonna do when you need fuel canisters or a topo or little plastic squeeze bottles? Wait for them to come up on steep and cheap? REI packs are plain dope in my opinion and I have no problem paying full retail for a pack that's already 40% less then it's competitors.

I'd put my dividend money on the fact that 80% of those monkeys have better spelling/grammar than you do. FU RETARD.

disclaimer: I'm not affiliated in any way with REI. I just hate people who still haven't discovered spell-check as a simple way to hide their abysmal writing skillzzz.

There's a new REI in town and they went out and hired a bunch of new people. It's a mix of tools and hot blonde girls who know nothing. I wish they had hired all hot blond girls who know nothing.

The Local REI by me is full of really nice people, the ones I have dealt with know enough, the members only garage sales are a great way to get some used gear dirt cheap, and my dividend just bought me some new cams. Maybe if you don't rely on a cashier to teach you about your gear then this is a good place to shop. And more good news, is that if somebody gives you bad advice... just return it no hassle!

Dammit! there goes my plan to buy gift cards and use them to buy gift cards to by gift cards to buy gift cards and buy gift cards until my dividend paid for the first gift card.

Regardless what you think of REI as a company, dividends are now available online when you log in (check the "use dividend" on the shopping cart page). No coupon yet, though.

Yes, and what an evil plan it would be. Sadly though, they are wise to scams. Sorta like how you can't use one visa to pay another off. Easily......
