I guess the packaging is difficult to remove, when you are in a frenzy. My wife chipped a nail. Be careful out there...

Are you sure it wasn't one of the counterfeits?

Neither I nor the guy at the store could figure out how to get the thing out of the package.

Sure sign its legit!

When I first read the thread title I thought, "Well! That didn't take long!"

Here it comes, blame the device and not the user. Here comes the ban. If Gri Gris are outlawed only sportos will have gri gris.

So I just got mine in the mail.
How do you remove it from the package.
Do I need a saw?

So here is how the GriGri2 is packaged.
What is the safest way to remove the plastic plug
in the carabiner hole? Do I drill it out with my Bosch?

Just send it to me, I will open it for you. And test it. and keep it....

I got it out.
I used a 3/8" drill bit and pounded the plastic sleeve out.
No injury occurred.

I'm guessing you don't have kids. If you've unpacked enough toys you can get anything out of it's package.

Jeeze - I tried that and it didn't look to be working. It IS hard to get out. I had to resort to a screwdriver.

This will certainly be a recurring theme as more people get them.

I actually looked in the instructions for the "Petzl Cartoon" showing me how to remove it.

By hand, on lead, ground up, or, did you use a power drill whilst on rappel?

Did you onsight that rig, or, did you have some beta?

I did too. That plastic plug is for sure the packaging crux. Unscrewing and pulling were not working. Turns out you need to use the "new method"--
Tearing the cardboard off around the plug and pulling the backside of the plug.

Nicely done.

Gonna have to work it out on top rope...

Thanks greg for posting the beta pic. After seeing how strenuous it looked I decided to go with a Cinch.
