+1 That was almost as awesome as BJs and Samwiches

Ha! Love it. I heard there was a climbing wall scene, but hadn't seen that yet. The movie (Cedar Rapids) opens around here on Fri, at the Mayan theater in Denver. I hear they have a bar there, so it's bound to be good -- I'm psyched to see it.

Totally shameless plug here (we've all got to have something to brag about, if not personally then by association...), but my brother-in-law, Phil, wrote it. No shit. His first big hit film, and he's an awesome, funny dude. Hell, by way of character testimony, we went to the Big Lebowski fest in LA together last spring. Anyway, Cedar Rapids opened at Sundance recently, and is getting good reviews. Here's one from the New Yorker: newyorker.com/arts/reviews/…

Looks great! What a great cast to boot. And Kelly, the bar at the Mayan is awesome and strangely affordable. Congrats to your brother- in- law!

Sweet, thanks for the info (good news on the bar!), Allen. We're heading to the 7:45 showing, should be fun!

It would have been funnier if they used more typical climbing gym employees, you know, skinny, plimply-faced teenagers.

No offense meant to the film's writer, I'm sure he had no say in the matter.

Ha! No doubt, that'd have been good. Between texting, the kids trying to talk the guy down. It'd be realistic, anyway! BTW, anybody else notice the cam on the ponytail dude's harness? I mean, ya never know when a thin hands crack just might appear while on TR in the gym. Good stuff.

Was this filmed at Planet Rock in Ann Arbor?

Kelly Cordes · · Estes Park, CO · Joined Oct 2001 · Points: 95

Yeah, Andrew, turns out it was. I guess the ponytail dude (of the "I don't trust people with ponytails!" line) is an employee there, not an actor. Pretty cool!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
