Is this the recommended approach? If so, where exactly is it? I once tried to hike up to Cherry Jam from from Catalina State park. We turned around after 2 hours when it looked like we were about a third of the way there.

Nope, the recommended approach I've always heard was from town side. Hike the trail to the top of Table and then descend to the climb.

Decided I would walk down the old roadcut a little ways towards Table Mountain today and get some photos for an assignment. I think it is one of the more aesthetic peaks in the Tucson area!
