Saw a thing on the news tonight about best burger joints... they said five guys was best and in n out burger. I have to say after a big climb I crave in n out. McDonald's got last. What do you crave most after a climb?

K's in Buena Vista! I went there for the first time Sunday after hiking Mt. Elbert (ok, so not really climbing, eh.) I love old-fashioned burgers!

Ed's Cantina (Estes) "Cantina Burger" with a cold Dales Pale Ale on tap. Nothing matches it after a long day in the Park, in winter.

+10...after a day of ice you will literally cream your pants. I kid you not. That other sloppy one they have is pretty solid too.

Wash them down with a few pints of FY IPA...good golly.

Duffy's in Utica IL. DuffyBurger special. Best fat, fresh kill bleeding red burgers, buried in a load of fries, right after freezing your ass off ice climbing down in the canyons of Starved Rock state park.

The Grubsteak in Estes has a pretty mean burger too.
Closer to home, the Miner Burger at the Spot in Golden is a favorite.

Can't forget Bud's Bar in Sedalia and the Sedalia Grill. Both are satisfying after a day at Devil's Head.

While a burger topped with bacon, pulled pork, and hot sauce is fairly ridiculous, nothing tops The Double Bypass.

Imagine chowing down on a burger comprised of...

A half pound patty
two fried eggs
six slices of American cheese
eight slices of bacon

But it gets better. Because for the double bypass, the Vortex replaces the bun... with a pair of buttery grilled cheese sandwiches.

DELICIOUS!

Young's Jersey Dairy- in Springfield Ohio...
The Barn Buster is crazy-good with everything on it, including 2 kinds of home-made cheese. Get it with the 48 Oz chocolate "bull-shake" for a bursting belly. This and the cost of housing are the only drawbacks to moving to Colorado!

Now that I live in Boulder (a good move overall) I go to the Dark Horse. $4.50 gets you a good burger special and a basket of fries and you don't have to wait on a table to open up. We even named a route in the flatirons after that tradition: Burger Madness

The $5 burger, beer, and fries at Dark Horse in Boulder is a tough deal to beat given the quality. Also, the La Garita Cash Store in the San Luis Valley can do no wrong.

If you haven't had the jalapeno cream cheese burger (Pied Piper) at Dougherty's (Ellsworth and Broadway in Denver) then . . . well, you need to. It's close to the rattly to perfect hands crack of Broadway.
