Whos got one, what do you wear it for? My gear whoreness just forced me to pick up a new one for 100 bucks online. Going to use it as a warm winter layer instead of a fleece, but trying to find other uses.

Far as outerwear, I already have:

Hooded patagucc down sweater for light belay duty.
marmot windshirt
pata ascentionist
pata r1 hoody
FF volant

where does the nano puff fit in for you?

I've got a micropuff pullover that that i use for everything from skiing to something to toss on during bouldering sessions later in the fall and it comes in especially handy for cold Buttermilks mornings. Supposedly the Nano is all the warmth without the bulk, if you can call the micropuff bulky. I love the micro, for 100 bucks I think you did alright. It'll probably be great between the R1 and the ascentionist.

I've got both a Nano pullover and the new Nano Hoody. I use Nanos both as a fleece substitute beneath a shell when it is nasty (wind and snow) and by itself over a baselayer. In that capacity it functions great as an insulated shell. It's super useful and compact. On days when I'm ice climbing and constantly moving I find I don't need a shell for protection and I love the freedom of movement it gives me............AND it's easier to clean off the spilt beer of it than fleece.

I'd say just that, a great fleece substitute. Lighter, compacts better. Great with shell, softshell, or vest. If it's synthetic than even better. I just got the U.L. down inner parka from Mont Bell, VERY happy with it.

I'm going to be frank and put a plug here. There is a company called "Melanzana" in Leadville, CO. Their fleece products are AMAZING. Their waffle-pattern micro-fleece with balaclava hoody truly honors the concept of function for an outdoor performance layer. So here's to fleece. Check them out melanzana.com

I've got one. I think it is almost as warm as my patagonia lightweight R4. I got it mostly for rock climbing in cool New England weather. I clip it to my harness and throw it on at belays. I combine it with an ultra-light rain shell on long long climbs and figure I could survive the night...(on Cannon for example). It is very small when stuffed. I also wear it under my shell when skiing at the resort and it is more comfortable than a bulky fleece layer (I don't have an actual 'ski jacket'). I think it would be too warm to wear while actually ice climbing, but not warm enough for an ice belay parka - at least in the NE.

I think something of the style is worth it as an ultralight belay jacket. I use a BMW Cocoon hoody instead at 9.4oz but same concept. That nanopuff is a bit easier to find.

I live next to a Patagonia outlet and will probably be buying one of these during the next 40% off sale they have.

I've tried the new nano puff hoody on alongside the down sweater (also on my to-get list). I want them for both climbing + anything where I will need something warm but compact to tote with me.

The nano puff is obviously a better choice when it wet weather is an issue or when a hood is desired, but when absolute warmth is less of an issue.

the hoody version is kind of retarded, it doesnt have any draw string in the back to keep the hood out of your eyes when you turn your head. seems like an unbelievable oversight

How does the nano compared to the old puff ball pullover. Is it similar in warm or a pinch less?

BTW, I had a hollofill jacket from Sears when I was 10 walking to school in blizzards in Wyoming. That probably started the genre.

I use both the Nano Pullover and Nano Hoody. These have joined the aresnal with a Feathered Friends Down Parka, DAS Parka, and Puffball Pullover.

The Nano has been incredible for long days in on rock and a few Cold Mornings in the Sierras. The size v.s. insulation has encouraged me to new levels of alpine suffering.

Like Jack mentioned, it handles spills far better than the traditional Puffball.

Where did you find one for $100?

Place called North River Outfitters (I think from Mass), I found them on Google Shopping. They had a Large in Black for $100. Only other thing I could find was an orange color in a XXL.. Wierd, it shipped from the Patagonia Service center in Reno. Hmm.

It's so small it fits anywhere! In fact it's in my pack right now!
It's also nice that it stuffs in its chest pocket so you can clip it to your harness for a long route where you want a jacket but aren't taking a pack.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
