Chris Plesko heading to Alaska for Mtn Bike Iditarod
Submitted By: John McNamee on Feb 24, 2010
Mp.com member Chris Plesko flies out tomorrow to Anchorage, to line up for the Mountain Bike version of the Iditarod. He will be competing in the 350 mile version of the race, which will take him from Knik to McGrath. Needless to say it’s going to be cold and snowy! Today it is partly cloudy and the lows are zero to 15 above.
The ultra distance race has 50 people entered and there is no prize money, other than you’re invited to come back next year for free. Chris will be riding a Speedway Cycles Fatback especially designed for riding on snow. Late last year Chris got caught in a small avalanche in RMNP and broke his ankle, so there has been a lot of hard work and effort to get back on the bike. I’ve never met Chris and don’t know him from a bar of soap, but I thought this was the sort of thing the community might like to get behind and wish him well. Have a blast. | He's a cool guy. I had the pleasure of climbing with him once. Good luck, Chris! You've got big balls that must not freeze and shrivel up easily! |

| Chris is a great climbing partner, a cardio machine, and a total suffering glutton. Have a good time, buddy. Anyone see the irony to calling an event where you ride a bicycle 350 miles through freezing snow an "invitational"? |

| Earlier in the year I invited Chris to join our mtb bike racing team, the Golden Wheelmen but now I'm pleased he wasn't able to join us! He would have finished the race, had a beer and driven back to Denver before some of us even got to the finish line! |

| Thanks everyone! The race was really fun and I'd love to go back. Not quite sure how to make that happen yet but I'd love to go back and race next year on a totally healthy ankle and then go to Nome in 2012. |
