Wave sailing right before an awesome storm in the Outer Banks. This thread is almost 14 months old and this is the first pic of wave sailing. Really?

KHall if your interested in wavesailing images there are lots of pics on my buddy GP's blog site mauisurfreport.blogspot.com here on Maui we like to think that we live in the epicenter of the sport of wave sailing. We have the best conditions imaginable year round. Warm water and LOTS of wind and waves.
I should start posting more images.
Please share more of your own experiances and images this was intended to be a descussion thread and obvilously you are intrested in wave sailing so post up Dude!
BTW: The surf has been EPIC!!! for a long time now! We are so blessed !!

When I lived in Okinawa, I read an article explaining how kite-boarding was actually an ancient mode of transportation, and that (it is theorized) many sea-traders of the Ryuku kingdom would sail across the East China Sea on Kite-board to return to family. This could have taken them 20 ~ 40 hours. Of course they could have had superior kite-boards back then.

Years ago...
Before the fall of the berlin wall.

I read a story about two East Germans that escaped across a large bay.
They had fashioned home made windsurfers out of salvage.

Including hefty bag foul weather gear.

As I recall, they made it.

Post Christmas swell photos from dirty jerzy can be viewed here localswell.com/ Check out the December 27 & 28 photo galleries under the Recent Rip photo. Fun New Years day swell to boot. The only New Years head ache I had was of the ice cream variety.

Hey Olaf,

Could you do me a huge favour, no hurry of course, but could you take a photo of the left in front of Mama's, looking towards Noriegas and the West Maui Mountains, during a sunset?

Please oh please?

Hayne, I think that I can handle your request in that I work for Mamma's Fish House at the present. We are building what is described to me as an intergalactic communicator and I am at Kuau every day ether working, surfing, wave sailing, or just hanging with the gang at the launch.
We have been blessed with with back to back "makker" swells for a very long time now and I for one am getting worn out! BUT too much of a good thing is just the right amount!TOO much work and TOO many waves! "WOW!" LIFE IS GOOD !!!
Forestvonsinkafinger, That's very intresting and I don't doubt it a bit. Kites have been around and used for many different purposes for a long time. I am not a kiter myself but if I hadn't learned to windsurf I would be. Kiting has a much shorter learning curve.
Fat Paul that is what I would call a world class wave! It looks like the east coast is going off and thanks for the link. I am going to pass it along to the gang .

I was kidding.

We have a local shop that rents movies. Tues and Thursdays are dollar days, rent 2 get one free. Sometimes I have a hard time getting time to watch one, but have been getting movies pretty regularly lately during the recent rehab.

I like stuff from an Aussie named Andrew Kidman. Litmus, Glass Love and his layest I saw last week called Last Hope... or Last Chance, I forget. The latter was like 12 short films by several people beside Andrew including an Albert Falzon flashback discussing the making of Morning of the Earth.

There is a documentry called Style Masters or something like that, has alot of Lopez and the clan from the early days....

I like Herbie Fletcher movies too. He keeps it real with chicks, wipe outs and episodes of localism. (not that I condone such behavior at the beach but it damn sure happens.)

It's 27F here this morning and been lake like flat for 2 weeks.

Some shots from mid Dec.

Cheers.

My favorite surf movie is "Big Wendesday" I own it and watch it several times a year. It's dated. Although the surfing isn't the most spectacular footage ever filmed the story is one that can be transfer to any group of good friends growing up and surfing together and then going their individual paths in life only to regroup for the Big Wednesday!

BTW I thought I would share today's forecast: The north shores - The massive surf from this latest NW will keeping high surf warning level waves breaking for the time being. More extra large swells are expected this week, arriving early Thursday, and then again during the second half of this coming weekend. The surf will drop some between these peaks…although likely keeping high surf advisory waves breaking then. The surf on the outside reefs apparently reached 55-60 feet on Oahu’s north shore…which is incredible!

The first surf movie I ever saw...in 1983, when I had just started surfing...I was in shock when I walked out of the theater, and I could never imagine I'd be surfing those same waves a few years later...

Rainbow Bridge.

Remember the Jimi Hendrix movie/concert filmed on Maui... had some good surfing, south shore if I remember.

It was the first time I saw Haleakala and knew I had to go there.

Kindegarden teacher asked me the other day if I liked the movie Point Break.... sure to be a classic at some time?
