Heads up guys,

Just found this add on Boulder Craigslist for "Black Diamond CAMBORS"
Link to site.

Looks a little fishy to me.

Bump b/c this stuff looks fishy to me too (Cambors?) -- and if stolen, perhaps not from the Boulder area. Dude has two other posts on the Seattle craigslist (I googled the phone number)

seattle.craigslist.org/tac/…

Edit:
Here's his 3rd post

Looks fishy, yes, but at least his story on the different listings is consistent.
Sucks that a crook would pose as someone in need if he's a crook, and sucks for someone in need that we'd have to wonder if he's a crook in disguise. But that's the thing about crooks, they are not good people, so it's the sort of thing that they do.

They manipulate people into that position. I mean, who wants to be the one that calls a guy to accuse him of pawning stolen gear and then find out he really does have cancer though??? That is an icky thought.

I lost a climbing friend to cancer a few years ago. It would have been pretty uncool for someone to have called him a crook for selling stuff. But then again, at least he knew what his gear was called.
It would also be really uncool to let an asshole crook get away with it.

I agree, it would suck if the guy was lying about being truly in need in order to sell stolen gear. But this is where we need to self-police. If it looks fishy, call people on it. Because if you don't, then gear will continue to be stolen, people will continue to get away with it, and somebody's rack will be long gone.

Call him out. Any climber (and I mean any, even the newest, most uneducated climber out there) will know what a cam is.

The only other scenario I can see is that his gear is being posted by a friend or relative who has little or no knowledge on the subject.

His third post from Seattle sounds like he knows absolutely nothing about the motocross bike he's selling either when he says it has a "titanium frame"... which it doesn't. Makes me lean more towards crook.

I posted it to Cascade Climbers and provided a link back to this thread as well.

Well at least he wants more for the CAMBROS than the BONAZA

One thing I noticed is how all of the gear just seems thrown down. I mean, that's alotta monies worth'a gear right there - most people would at least try and make used climbing gear look neat. Then again, this guy Does seem more unedu-mah-cated than Most people.

Assuming the worst - this is an absolute pity. Here's to hoping this assumption is totally insane.

Someone should call him and chat him up. Ask where he used to climb ect. You should be able to tell if he actually climbed or not.

I’m not a good enough actor to do it but I’m sure someone here is.

My guess is that this guy is legitimate. He is obviously not that good at proofreading or typing. I think he bought all of the cams a long while ago, never climbed on them, and then forgot their proper name or perhaps never even knew it. A lot of people approach climbing by buying gear and then never do anything with it. They all look pretty new.

So yeah, I would give him the benefit of the doubt.

I just called and talked to him. I'm not going to throw out any accusations of theft or fraud, but I will say that the guy knows absolutely nothing about climbing. He didn't know anything about the cams, how they worked, or how to describe them. I asked what he used to climb and he replied "You know man - Mt. Helens and stuff". When I called I talked to a woman who told me to hold on because Charles was talking to a nurse and going through chemotherapy. When I actually talked to Charles he seemed stoned and out of it and mentioned his cancer no fewer than 8 times. As a law student (and longtime dissimulator) I'm good at catching people who are spinning stories - and he didn't sound legit. He tried too hard to sell me on his story.

That being said, I live in Utah and can't really do anything. If any of you Washington people know of gear that's been stolen it might be worth checking out what he's selling to see if it looks familiar. If it hasn't been stolen and you're looking for a lot of cams, you could probably get them cheap from this guy.

Stich,
good of you to still have the holiday spirit and faith in people. BUT... Those cams are new enough not to forget what they are called , don't you think: New c3s, new style single stem .75s, that skinny dogbone with the new 'dynachord' whatever name NO WATER KNOTS! .......................uh... maybe my stuff is just old.

Well, after the phone call I tend to agree. Stoner-tweaker-moron thief.

The CAMBROS have been removed from craigslist.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
