1986--Anything good/monumental/amazing happen in the climbing world?
|
As the title implies--did anything of great importance to the climbing world happen in 1986? |
|
Not sure if its monumental to the climbing "world", but certainly significant to the US, the first ascent of To Bolt Or Not To Be, the first 5.14 in America, and though not the first "sport route", it was probably The One that made many climbers re-think their style. By my count this was the 5th 5.14 in the world (all 14a). |

Oh ya, first linkup of El Cap & 1/2 Dome in a Day by Croft & ? |
|
I thought "To Bolt..." was 1988. Am I mistaken? Thanks for the other two, though. |

I started climbing again after almost dying of cancer in '85. |

Well, I turned 3 and... |

Magic Line on K2 climbed by Wroz/Piasecki/Bosik. Also the South Face of K2 climbed by Piotrowski/Kukuczka. |

WOW, Monomaniac just question marked John Bachar! Yes, it was Bachar and Croft. Bachar being the mastermind of the idea, and also the much more famous climber at the time (and still today, or so i thought?). |

Hanson sent 5.tree at the Wood; it was reported a wee bit tougher than 5.to(hard) |
