Anyone available to climb December 13th?

I am going to be in Alabama visiting family and would like to hit up a few old classics at Sand Rock. I haven't climbed there in years and would like to hit up a few classics:
misti
bocephus
whammy
holiday block

Thanks,
Adam

I could be convinced but will need to check my schedule closer to time.

Sandrock or one of the other fire destinations in this great State?

Great, let me know Ben. And that is a yep on Sandrock ... if it wasn't for the pedestrians meeting me up later my 1st choice would have been Little River Canyon.

I should be good for the 13th. PM me through the site closer to time.

Why would you want to climb anywhere in Alabama besides Sand Rock (aka the Crown Jewel of the Southeast)?

(aka the Crown Jewel of the Southeast)

Good one JL.

I bet Sandrock was a really awesome place in about 1960...when was spray paint invented?

When did retrobolting and general douchbaggery come into vogue? Sandrock was probably cool before then...alas, I was a wee lil fellow, probably.

I think my first visit there was in the late 70's. The road was dirt, narrow, and vegetated. There was still some paint on the rocks back then but not many bolts at all. Probably a couple of bolts on a route or two and on top of the pinnacle. That goofy cable handrail thing wasn't there, the concrete bases where the picnic tables once stood hadn't been installed, etc. Wish I had pictures I could post.

I haven't been back in probably 10 years ... did they start subdividing the top of that thing like they planned? It would be a shame to see a situation get worse with a bunch of houses sprouting up there. Back in the mid to late 90's, before the police really started to crack down, the place was quite a party during the weekends.

"general douchbaggery" - Who's he, the guy in charge of the retrobolting? I didn't know they had a military ranking system, learn something new all the time...

Why would you want to go to Sandrock when Little River is only 20 min. longer drive if coming from the south and closer if coming from the north.

I am torn really ... but Sandrock won out because I heard it's the better of the two to experience "authentic southern culture."

You'll definitely get some southern culture at sandrock, especially on the weekend.

A friend bouldering during a weekday with the whole place to himself ... or thought. Overall-ed man with pointing shotgun, "get off them rocks dammit, these are my rocks."

"Yes sir, these are yours and I am going to leave immediately."

It's good hear that the traditions are continuing up there.

Aight, so Ben can't make it this Sunday. Anybody else care to climb this Sunday evening at Sandrock? I will even throw in a free bail carabiner.

Thanks,
Adam

Thanks, Ben. Looks like it was a rain out this weekend. I will hit you up next time I come out this way.
