I'd love to make it, but I won't be around during that time.

As for Wheelers: I have always found them to be very supportive and understanding to the climbing community. Sure, they don't tolerate stupid loud drunkenness, but who does these days?

Hola, Luis, I'm not quite sure what you are asking but here's the deal. If you are climbing at Devil's Lake which is about 30 miles north of Madison near Baraboo you can either camp in the State Park (this is probably the cheapest, but sites are hard to come by on week-ends--make reservations ahead of time) or at one of several private campgrounds. Two of the favorites among climbers are Wheeler's, on 159 and Green Valley which is on Hwy 12 just south of Baraboo.

Alright, here it is. The climber's party is going to be the weekend of Oct. 24th & 25th. Potluck at the south shore after crankin' our brains out sat. Then from there fire and camping (puking optional, but highly recommended!)at green valley. I'll talk to the owners this weekend to confirm, but in the past they've been game. So there you have it! Spread the word hard and spread it fast, lets revive this mofo and celebrate the fact that we all love to play on the stone; big and small!! Peace- EB

Message from EB: Yo, Yo , Yo, all right all its a done deal; this years climbers party will be the weekend of Oct 24/25th. Potluck at one of the pavillions at the south shore(usually the one right after the entrance on the left w/bathrooms); bring something to pass, then its on to Green Valley. Donna the owner is super psyched we're coming and asked that we bring trees or shrubs to help buffer the campground from the new HWY 12 development which is going right through their home(which is being torn down). So there you have it! Crank your brains out all day, meet at the south shore for some grubbin' and move onto the valley before your blood alcohol levels are illegal then throw down!!! Lets make this year one for the ages, all are welcome whether its your first year of climbing or 50th, git on it!! Whoooooop!

For what it is worth, I've talked to several people who just assume that the party is the third weekend. A lot of folks haven't seen this thread. It would be a lot easier to get a bigger turnout if it is the third weekend.

If the turnout has been weak in past years its up to us to get the word out. The party is usually the 3rd weekend but a bunch of people made commitments the 3rd weekend this year accidentilly, because the first weekend is the 2nd of oct. Usually the the third weekend is around the 20-21st, this year its the 16th. So what ever everyone is down with.. go for it. I was just trying to organize the party to make it what it used to be, since it seems as though nobody else had been doing it. Regardless a bunch of us will be partying the 4th weekend. TWO Parties? Why not!

Hi Eric, I'm just passing along what people have said to me about the date. We'd all like to see a good turnout. I bet we used to get 100-150 people. I went the year it snowed and there were about 5 or 6 people. Maybe Facebook or regular e-mail would help get the word out.

The climbers party has always been the 3rd weekend in October!....any one who comes who does not spend their spare time on MP will miss it if EB successfully moves it to the 24th!

We are planning for the 17th and have a climbers party in Lacrosse on the 24th for anyone who is interested. A lot of people are already planning for the 17th.

Well there you have it the party is the 17th. The only reason we talked about changing it is because of the early weekend this year and because there were a number of people who couldn't make it because of that. And after talking with a bunch of other regulars they seemed to not care what weekend it was. But two parties are better than one! I'll spread the word for the 17th.Thanks Dave for keeping it going.

Sounds like DLFA organizational prowess remains at traditional levels!

Leo,
You hit the nail on the head! Our vote is for the 17th as per tradition.

Someone should probably make a new thread with the CONFIRMED date so there is less confusion. The date is approaching very quickly!

So there is a La Crosse climber's party on the 24th? I might have to come home for that. It sounds like fun.

Thanks

Paul Jones · · Madison, WI · Joined Jun 2007 · Points: 170

Saturday 10/17 is the official day. Has anyone made arrangements for camping at Green Valley?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
