looks like maybe a fall past a sharp piton or hangar?

prob broke the leg and they had to go in and pin it together. a tear on a dull object would make a squigly line upp instead of the precision you see in the staples. = )

Broken femur - bouldering accident from what I understand.
Marty, what did they put in your leg, a car frame?

i was about to say, "that dude looks like marty carabin"....then i read the comment^^. looks like they had it split far enough to replace the entire femur.
