I've been on the short cut trail many times. My impression is that the park is starting to "groom" it. It looks more maintained than I remember and I can't think it would be even remotely possible to off-trail anymore. Saves enough time & energy to make it worthwhile. You can also intersect it immediately after the 2nd bridge.

We came down in five rappels. Specifically, we linked number 2 and number 3 for a full 60 m rappel that took us to the Upper Terrace. We trended south from the second set of bolts. From the end of that rappel we still traversed south on the terrace to reach the anchor at the top of the chimney on the southeast corner.
Thank you so much for all your betas, you guys are awesome! This is the first time that I've ever posted to MP and you guys were all so responsive, helpful & friendly. We're actually planning to climb the Saber (SW Corner) this Saturday so we won't bump into the crowd on the PG but the hike is the same. Thanks again!
