Dear Knowledgable Ft Collins' Persons,

Is there a place i can park and camp for free close to town/ horsetooth/ the 420's? I have a loft in my car and i have been commuting from Denver for work so i figured i would just crash up here instead of making the drive all the time. PLus- i could hit up horsetooth after work and not need to spend my time behind the wheel...

Suggestions anyone?

Also- where would be the best spot for some after work bouldering- aka- one that is not roasting in the afternoon sun?

thanks in advance-
your Denver amigo, CAmeron

Hard to answer your question because town and the 420's are an hour apart.
BUT around town can get tricky, there is a KOA at the mouth of the Poudre.
There are pay camp sites near the 420's and Red Feather has tons of free camping.
FYI the Poudre is out-of season a bit for bouldering right now, heat and bugs.

U can park your rig outside my house till Saturday (wife comes back) if you want to.

Afterwork is a little hot these days. Torture chamber goes into shade first,
but its mostly short TR's/solos. Best bet is start climbing after 7pm.

i see. thanks for the info and optional parking spot Mr B. are there any spots around horsetooth that allow overnight parking? i was thinking of doing some trail running up there and then perhaps droping into the torture chamber.

thx,

CB

hmmm...not really, that loophole has been shut for awhile.
There are pay sites at the south end, but they are usually full this time of year.

Basically, Fort Collins sucks for in town camping/truck parking.

Just drive up the Poudre a bit and sleep in your truck.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
