Lately I've been bringing a can of 25% DEET OFF spray along for the ride when bouldering here. Spraying into the starting pocket until the wasps are dead has worked fairly well to handle the issue. Those buggers always come back though. I have no problem with wasps in general, as they serve a purpose in controlling garden and agricultural pests. But surely they can find somewhere else in this great big swampy preserve to nest.
