IT IS ON! - Boulder Beer Night/ Spandex invasion. Sunday 6/14/09

There has been some discussion on this event on a different thread which might have been less obvious:

mountainproject.com/v/gener…

The basic idea here is that I am planning an 'invasion' of a crag by spandex-clad climbers and their counterparts in painter's pants and bandanas... (wrist bands anyone?) We'll converge for 1/2 day climbing on a Boulder Canyon crag and then go out for beers after. I intend to have an audience-jurried costume judging afterwards at the bar, with rules and categories to be posted later. There will be prizes provided by the Access Fund, and donations for the A.F. will be collected at the event. I will also have membership forms for anyone who is joining that night.

The time will be set for people to drift in sometime around 2PM at the crag, though you can obviously show up whenever you want... and sometime just before dark, as people get hungry- to head to the Dark Horse Saloon for burgers and beers/after party.

The crags I selected is Tonnere - lots of good climbing visible to the road. If we overflow, we can go to Avalon or Animal World.
Animal World - not as many climbs, but still plenty, I think.

Here was the origional Email note:
---------------------------------------
Next Sunday, 6/14, I am planning an odd get together... I want to take over a crag with a crowd in 80's style spandex. Anyone wanting to come as disgruntled trads in painters pants and a bandanna is also welcomed with open arms- please roll your cigs own and bring them...
We'd conviene on a random crag in Bocan for a few hours after lunch, hopefully to the amusement of everyone else there (I'm thinking the Sport Park because it would be so fitting) but perhaps Tonnere, or somewhere else.. Bring your mullet wigs, spandex, whatever...

Anyway, after a few hours climbing, I'd head back to the darkhorse for beer and burgers, and a post-even cosume/spandex/anti-spandex awards ceremony. The Access Fund will put up some schwag as prises, I have already got that ready to go. Winners of several categories will be judged by audience participation... probably by voting with whatever donations that anyone cares to make. All proceeds will go to the Access Fund. We'll also have membership forms for anyone who wants to join the A.F. at the event.

As well, in the name of stewardship, feel free to ask me for an empty trashsack at the event and pick up any trash, tape, etc you see on the ground. I'll bring a lot of them.

Please RSVP if this sounds like fun, so I can get an idea of how large the event will be. The end-of-event party will be your run-ofd-the-mill Boulder Beers type of thing at the DH... except we'll have a goodly number of people dressed outrageously.

That's a formal challenge to a spandex duel. I will be 'the gimp' of spandex. Your 'awe' will be more like awwwwh (or is that Whaaaahhh), when people feel sorry for you getting all shown up by a 'lifer' tradie.
I will bury you, Hank... (*grin*)

You're just tryin' to get into my pants now, aren'tcha? If I'd know it was this easy to get chicks, I would have bought more spandex in highschool!

Actually, most of my hot gear has claimors now...

Lee and I are planning on hitting the Conundrum Couloir with is far from Boulder. Maybe we can find something in the Indian Peaks or RMNP so we can make this.

I think I have some ugly spandex somewhere!

I'll talk to Lee.

Bring my aiders. :-)

What time do you think you guys will be up there?

I'll second Tony's vote for the Spork. Maybe some of the disgruntled tradies might step up and throw a TR on some of the more serious old school gear routes that rarely get done???

Well, I figure about 2PM people should filter in for climbing. Do what you like, but the invasion crew is planning plan such that we are 'done' around dusk, and heading out to the dark horse after.

We'll have the photographers swinging lenses by 3PM, and I hope for some good group shots. You can do a peak then join us if you are near Boulder.

Sure, but although tonight was all rain in boulder, we climbed upcanyon under blue skies.

If it rains at 3, show up at 4. It was blue and sunny from 4-8 tonight up high, while we watched Boulder metro get rained on.

If it rains at 7, we've left for the bar.

Since you've got everyone on-deck for their weekend plans already, and seeing as how we now live in Boulder, Washington (rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain -- it seems it will be raining, hailing, sleeting, and snowing at precisely 3pm every day this summer), maybe a backup rain-plan to hit the BRC on the same date would be an option?

Not as fun, but perhaps an even bigger crowd. Everyone's planning on beer, anyhow.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
