I'll bring 5 heads of lettuce and 5 pounds of ground beef.
does the beef need to be precooked?

Jennifer,

Do we need any trash receptacles? I've got a spare trash can and a bunch of bags I can bring.

The weather is looking pretty iffy for Saturday. I'm sleeping in my truck, so I don't mind camping and hanging out at all.

Should it be too wet to climb on Saturday, I plan to head in to Tombstone for breakfast and then spend the day exploring Tombstone and Bisbee. Anyone who'd like to is welcome to join me.

I'll head back to Isle of You before dinner time, or whenever the weather clears, whichever comes soonest.

I beg you all, that before you go to bed tonight, PLEASE say a little prayer for sunshine!!! I wanted to let you know that I will start setting up tables at 5:00pm so people can start dropping off their food. The kegs will be tapped and food will start being served at 6pm.

IS THERE ANYONE COMING SAT NIGHT THAT COULD BRING ICE FOR THE KEGS??
I NEED TWO MORE GAS STOVES!!! ANYONE???

We will also have a little pail outhouse set up to try and reduce the toilet paper flowers and waste in the woods. This is a #2 ONLY pail. Bring your own toilet paper.

Again, anyone with lanterns for the tables, chips, salsa, deserts(cookies/cake), potatoe/coleslaw salads, chili, paper towels......

Good idea on the outhouse. I know the idea of it sounds gross but i spoke with a FS agent on the east stronghold after the last one and human waste is their biggest complaint regarding Beanfest.

They [FS] are considering enforcing a rule on us that requires gatherings over an established (i don't recall the number) headcount to go through a registration process involving several hoops to jump through. One of those hoops is to have adequate on-site waste disposal systems. Several other interesting things came out during the discussion but the bottom line was that they feel as if the event leaves more of a mess than it should. They end up cleaning up litter and burying half (or not at all) covered poopie holes by hand for weeks after each event.

I know, I know... I'm preaching the choir here but I figured it wouldn't hurt to put this on so that we can all help make others more aware that we're more on the radar than we probably should be.

I've got a 2-burner gas stove that I'll bring with me.

So that's vegetarian tortillas, firewood, a stove, a trash can and trash bags. I only have one spare can - can someone bring a second for recycling?

Jennifer - How about some distinguishing characteristics, so I can find you to do the handoff on Saturday?

That weather report looks bleak at 50% chance of rain...

ATTENTION BEAN FEST UPDATE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SLIGHT LOCATION CHANGE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Due to a very large party of ATV operators occupying the Isle of You area the camping location for Bean Fest is moving to the Sheepshead Area. This will actually make it a little shorter drive. The people already down there are trying to put up a sign to notify everyone to turn off the 2-track earlier to the Sheepshead Area.
Pass it on.

Heads up on the belligerent group of white trash that is occupying the Isle of You area: This is a large, multi-family gathering of some of the trashiest weekend squatters the Stronghold has yet to be plagued with. I've seen some doozies out there but this gaggle takes the cake.

A couple of teenagers camping there stole a very large pile of wood i set out for beanfest and when we went down to retrieve it, the confrontation was anything but pleasant. The leader of the pack appears to be a rather large and very outspoken specimen, resembling, only slightly, that of the female gender. A brief battle of wits with the group led me to the quite clear conclusion that they lack a great deal in social graces [and intelligence]. We only managed to recover a portion of the wood as, we believe, the rest must have been hidden during the time it took us to go get a truck to come back and pick up the stolen wood.

Do NOT leave anything out that may be stolen as this group has little to no concern for property of others. Our confrontation led us to the conclusion that they have no remorse for taking the wood and would do it again, if given the chance. Their excuse was because we didn't "... write our names on it...". Nope,.. not making this up. Stay clear, if possible... they are most certainly looking for trouble.

I've already informed the on-duty FS LEO of the situation and made it very clear that this group of people are most certainly NOT bean fest attendees. I have nothing but the utmost faith that they will leave a wanton disaster in their wake down there and have emphasized the fact that although we [climbing community] will likely be the ones to clean it up, we didn't make the mess.

See you all tomorrow!
Daryl

Oh, come on! They weren't that bad. Just because they pulled their mattresses off there bed and brought them with to throw on the ground for a bed (not making this up) doesn't mean they're going to leave a big mess behind.

You were also able to find thier camp ( not making this up) by following the trail of Natural Ice Cans into their camp...and I think she was a sasquatch from the looks of her tow-headed little swamp rats...

Aside from the gun-tot'n 4-wheel'n Natty Ice drink'n, trailer live'n, 5 kids have'n NASCAR watch'n Rednecks, the bean fest was awesome and I can't wait for the pics to trickle in....
BTW I am trying to get a hold of Scott, as he ended up with my helmet. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Beanfest rocked! THANK YOU to Jennifer et al for doing such a great job organizing. The games were the highlight of the weekend. The climbing was great too, of course. :)

What an awesome group of people. I felt like I showed up not knowing anyone and went home with 20 new friends.

Ben and Ramey: You two are saints! Thank you SO much for pumping up my tire! Please let me know your address so I can send your compressor back to you.

Can't wait 'til the next one. See y'all next time!

Beanfest was a blast! I have a bunch of photos... will post them here I guess. Soon. After I sort through the million photos that need my attention from the past 2 months. Ha.

You needn't worry about it. We were going to get a new one anyway. And you're more than welcome. ;) Hope you got home safely.
