Well it's south facing so you've got about 2 degrees and 42 hours to go before it's too hot until next November. Other than that, have a fantastic time. Bring loppers and a hand-saw. The road and trail always need a little care. ~Susan

I was up there a few weeks ago and the snow kept Joe and I out (of the 4-WD road). But, it should be clear now. This is a god time of year to go; it should be about 12-14 degrees F cooler than the Valley.

I was up in crown king recently and a burn from last summer has made much of the rock up in that area brittle. I would be careful because fire might have effected the bolts. probably not best to go.

Susan, I walked the whole road last year with a saw and lopers, so it's hopefully a little better. My first time there I got massive desert pinstriping on a brand new truck. I was up there last year, also in a new vehicle, and was hoping to avoid a repeat. The trail definitely could have used a little TLC, though.

David, really that much snow? My parents in Walker got like 18" a few weeks back but figured all that would have long melted by King Dome by now. Did you and Joe hump it up the hill then? Reports claim that it takes the same amount of time to hike up the hill, but me.... I've always driven it to the parking area. Mostly because I hate to hike! Sooze

Hey Snooze; Yeah, there was lots of snow and mud the day Joe and I were there. We actually did Greg's route (Steel Monkey) and Marty's (Kojak) on Fool's Gold wall and drove up to the road to King Dome but the snow was deep (~ 12 inches?; too lazy to hike that far and too much mud and the beer at the pub was nice........!)

We went up to King Dome on Thursday, It was a perfect temperature and there was no snow to be seen. The slab climbing is awesome. We approached from the base and it was a pretty full on hour bush bash to the base of the cliff, but worth it!
