Climbing Friday morning 11/21 between Worcester and Providence???

I will be in the area on business Tuesday through Thursday and would like to check out some of the local rock. If anyone is available and interested in getting out, on next Friday morning, I'll extend my trip twenty four hours. I'd like to see what all the hubub is about in the NE...I'll have a rental and can pick up and drop off as long as I can make it to the airport for the flight out of Providence at 4:35 PM.

I onsight about 60% 5.10s, I'll have all my own gear, rope, and rack if neccessary. I don't want to clip bolts.

Thanks,
Ben

This is one bad dude... go climbing with him. He is so hard you don't know where he ends and the stone begins.

I just polished off an entire cheesecake...it was my birthday...so my hardness is in a steady state of decline.

On a more serious note, to any Massachusetts locals, I was looking at Crow Hill and Cro Magnon if anyone is interested.

lincoln woods bouldering is the best bet if its not raining, just go, its good

I'd have to agree with Mobley. If you're in Worcester and need to get back to Providence anyways, might as well hit the woods. If you're there to get on routes, I guess Crow Hill, but if you're there to "see what all the hubbub is about in the NE" then Lincoln Woods is your place.

I hate bouldering almost as much as I hate sport climbing...

I wouldn't want to spend the extra money on another night in the hotel and another day on the rental car just to boulder. Maybe it should read, "see what all the hibub is about with NE trad"...maybe I'm too picky....whatever.

Thanks for the suggestions, though.

I'll throw in breakfast for anyone that is available...I am a competent leader and belayer and am looking to tick a few routes up North. I know it's a long shot being a work day and all.

I'd join you if I didn't need to be in class Friday AM...

On another note, it might be a bit much to expect to see "what all the hubbub about the NE" is about with a trip to Crow Hill. With all due respect to those fond of the place (hey, I did my first lead there), it really isn't all that great. NE climbing is about the Gunks, Cannon, Rumney, No. Conway, and lots of smaller crags spread around in the woods - to which I don't think Crow Hill holds much of a candle.

That said, you might want to check out Farley. I've heard it's good, although I haven't made it out there yet b/c you and I feel similarly about sport climbing. Supposed to be some good gear routes, too, though - anyone else have more info?

I lived in this area for quite a while. The bouldering in Lincoln Woods is far superior to the roped climbing at Crow Hill. Going to Farley Or Rose ledge would be much better but then it would be a pretty good haul to Providence by 4:30
The best trad climbing is North Conway area in NH and about a 2.5 - 3 hour drive each way.

The Gunks and others are definately on my hit list for a dedicated NE trip. In fact, I'd like to make my annual "out of the SE trip" in 2009 to the Gunks. I am just trying to maximize the business travel and climbing opportunities with this trip. I am pretty much confined to a short hop out of Worcester for this one...I'll be staying in downtown Worcester.

If it doesn't work out, there is always next time (I am in the area alot) or mid 2009 when I take my yearly long distance trip.

In the meantime, I'll stisfy myself with what we have inside of a weekender...TWall/Sunset, clandestine Alabama crags, North Carolina granite...it could be a lot worse... ;)

Hey, I lived outside of Asheville, NC for 5 years - I know that y'all have it good down there. Hell, if I was choosing between here and there purely on the basis of the climbing, I'd choose Ashe-vegas in heartbeat. Unfortunately I had unfinished business at an institution of higher learning up here...

Ben, I'll check with some of my of my friends who might be more gifted with free time. I'll send you a PM in a day or so if I come up with anything. When do you need to know in order to decide re: extending the hotel/car costs?

I reckon by the end of the week should suffice. Southwest is ok about extensions as is the rental car...the hotel may become the kicker. Thanks for the effort.

If you get back down this way. Hit me or Paul up for some of that good NC granite...or TAG Sandstone.
