I just finished watching the new Reel Rock Film. A major theme that I saw durng the movie was "the next step." Regardless of whether or not you saw the movie, I'd like to know what your next step is... --Marc

One way or another, to get off of this plateau that I've been on for the last 3 or 4 years.

The next step is to finish grad school....:) climbing wise, the next step is to get on gear routes that I know I may not be able to onsight, and not worry about it. instead, just attempt to do my best, and move as gracefully as I can thru the crux.

Hi. I really want to learn how to climb big walls - starting with pitches and small walls. I want to aid climb. And find a partner who has the same dream and also time :( Goes for ice climbing too :( Aid solo is another one... in the rain... and snow... (and you think I'm joking? Andy Kirkpatrick is my hero!). Oh - and have more fun with life and take the trivial things less seriously! Might help my climbing!

Recover some old steps: Become a comfortable 5.10, scared 5.11 climber. Do a wall for the first time since 1981. Interesting question, Marc.

Marc, I was there last night too. I thought the Sharp Point film was a 90 minute lesson is what NOT to do next! Sure, it motivated me to get out, but all these people seriously pushing the danger limits made me feel sorry for their friends & families - they've got little time left with some of those athletes.

Sure, it motivated me to get out, but all these people seriously pushing the danger limits made me feel sorry for their friends & families... Interesting perspective. I find it especially interesting because my next step is to BASE jump. :) I'm still a long ways out, but I found the BASE footage to be especially inspiring. I generally don't get off on the bouldering footage too much, however I was inspired by the footage of Caldwell, Woods, and Robinson really pushing each other to send, send, send. Nick wrote:...they've got little time left with some of those athletes. I find this perspective to be very interesting. Watching the movie last night I didn't think that anyone was in imminent danger of killing themselves--even in the Czech Republic. However after logging onto MP.com and reading about Honnold's latest exploit I was tempted to start another thread asking how much longer we'd be reading about him and his adventures; he's 23 years old and free-soloing the Regular NW Face of Half Dome! I thought Moonlight was insane but Half Dome takes the cake as far as I'm concerned. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ England wrote:Solo. This is interesting too. For some reason, I never really aspired to solo; for me, it just kind of happened. In fact, I always thought that I would never solo; I thought it was simply to crazy for me. I'm gonna have to give this some more thought. Thanks for the interesting point, England. Thanks to everyone else that weighed in too. --Marc

Hi Marc I was there too...I suppose I'll have to watch the movie again to find that part. What I got from it was the exploration of the interesting place within one's own mind of the meeting point of "fear" & "control" - Lisa R is one of my personal favs great movie & footage huh.? 'specially those euro-rock-hoppers with a rack o'knots instead of nuts my next step is doing 'today' - I try to focus and take life one-day-at-a-time cheers ~k

everything is clearly not relative, otherwise climbing grades would make no sense, and communication would be impossible. my next step is to learn to climb offwidths, to push a little harder on the fingercracks, and to start bouldering outside for real.

Next step for me is to take everything that have learned and take it to the big mountains. It's time to start tackling my Dream lines.

I'd like to climb in Yosemite soon. It's only 5 hours away now, but I have to get into some serious climbing shape first. There are not too many rocks to climb out here by my bro's house. (bummer : ( ) In the meantime, I plan on taking Lilly for a walk later, when it cools down. That's alway fun and relaxing. cya, pj ; )

Good question. My current and next step is learning to trust my abilities leading again after a long fall. I have been climbing for 11 years. 16 months ago I took a 30-footer after falling on an alien that pulled. A stopper below that held me, and I was never in any danger of decking. I was uninjured physically, but f$%^ked on lead mentally. So yeah, I am learning to walk again, so to speak.
