Last batch cost $1.50 each from Mad Rock. This order $2.95. We order close to 700 a year so if anyone can hook Jimbo and I up with a pro deal we would appreciate it.

hey i dont know how good this info is but i think that petzl will let people who establish routes get a pro deal on their hardwear. i think that if you go into your local shop they may be able to act as an intermediary between you and petzl so you can get some cheaper bolts. hope this inof is correct and that it helps

Someone at MadRock is F'ing up. For 700 units, you should do a lot better than REI's behind the counter price. Be sure to call them and tell them the size of the order they just blew; and that this time a year from now its likely no-one will buying hangers at all.

700 units per year is hella mucho bolts, btw. Most impressive. How do you find time to climb? And between wedge anchors or 5-pc.s, batteries, drill bits, static line, paint......where's the dinero coming from? Are you going to become a guidebook tycoon like todzilla and Bob D.? All that money changes people you know, just remember all the little people who helped you into that Gulfsteam.

The cost of steel is going up almost as fast as the cost of fuel. That may be part of the problem.

Shop around guys there are still plenty of hangers under $2 a piece.

as Brent Kertzman already posted, the sale deal at Fixe is the bomb. They used to do 100ct plated at $110 but 50ct for $66 is still nice, $1.32 a hanger.

It appears that the climbaxe hangers are out of stock, which is a shame, I really like those. Several other online stores sold them for awhile as well, they all seem to be out of stock.

The fixe hangers mentioned are plated steel, we really should all being using stainless.

Eric, did you guys ever come up with a good deal? Also, just wondering what everyone thinks of Faders gear? $0.89 per bolt and $1.39 per hanger seem like a bargain but i've never been one to associate 'climbing' and 'bargain' too closely. Anyone have any good/bad/neutral experiences with this brand?

We've used Faders hangers on a lot of our routes. They work fine... A hanger's a hanger, ya know?

Thanks, and i'll agree with you [for the most part]there; i guess i was more wondering about the actual bolts. Seems like the ss are on par or slightly less than others in terms of cost but the carbon bolts are just way cheap. Leads me to believe the quality may be comparable to something you might find at Ace or the others. I'm thinking i would sleep better at night having spent more $$ on something tried and true but thought i would ask if anyone had seen or done any testing with this product.

Edit:
I should probably clarify that though i'm located in the arid southwest, i will stay with the powers ss 5p or triplex bolts. This is mainly out of curiosity.
Thanks

About a month ago, I was trying to place an order for a bunch of Powers 5-piece bolts (the Powerbolt, if you like brand names) through a local fastener supplier, and the manager told me that Powers had discontinued the SS model of whatever length I was asking about (3" i think). He said their shop wasn't stocking them for some reason, then called the distributor and Powers to find out they stopped making them.

Anybody else hear this, or was the manager just sick of talking to some non-construction worker/dirty climber?
I would lean toward this option, but the same manager was super helpful when I got a box of the wrong bolt there previously. I brought them back the next day and he gave me a dozen SS bolts, no charge...

They have no description for their hanger's. You'd think they would at least have the KN rating if they are wanting to make some sales?

They are still listed on the website and the link to the spec sheet still shows the stainless sizes and specs matrix. I sent an email to the phoenix office to see what the deal is. Will post back when i get a response.

Okay, i just spoke with Tim at the New York office (he was there late) and he told me what happened was they recalled an entire batch of carbon steel 3/8" (not sure what length) that failed a qa test so they currently have none to ship of that size/length. He did inform me, however, that there has been no recall or discontinuation of the stainless line of the powerbolts.

hmmmm. very interesting. i guess i'll have to make another inquiry about those!

thanks for the info daryl

I just got a call from the Phoenix office regarding my email yesterday. In addition to the recall, there was a discontinuation however the size that was discontinued was in the 1/4" diameter range; not the 3/8" range.

He also added that the entire PowerBolt line is slated to be discontinued across the board in a few months. He couldn't give specifics on when the discontinuation would take place but did say that prototypes for the superseding bolt are going through the test/development phase now. The new bolts will be called the PowerBolt Plus and will be offered in stainless and carbon steel.

The reason for the upgrade is due to code changes in the industry dealing with high seismic risk areas of concrete... more specifically, cracked concrete codes. Read on if you're really bored. The main difference in the actual design will be in the sleeve that the cone pulls up inside of. He confirmed that the PowerBolt Plus will be removable as in the current design.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
