To all of those who have posted regarding Preston,

My name is Molly Gruber and my older brother Jeremy has posted here recently. Cheryl Claman-Brennan is my aunt and Willy, Noah, and Talia are three of the coolest cousins that a girl could ask for. I have been away at UCLA Theater Camp for the past three weeks and have been quite out of the loop, but reading these kind posts and well-wishes from the community has warmed my heart. Thank You to everyone who has contributed here, and I cannot thank you enough for the support that you have offered to my Aunt Cheryl. I will always have memories of my Uncle Preston and I will endeavor to keep them close to my heart.

Willy, Noah, Talia, Aunt Cheryl~
I love you guys so much and if you or any of the kids need someone to talk to, I am here for you.

We Love You Uncle Preston!

To the Brennan Family,

When I think of the Brennan name and family in our home town, my mind is filled with positive images of true love and an authentic way of living.

No doubt I feel this way because Preston exuded your family values every where he went and with each person he encountered in his life.

Your family is a treasure to me, and I am with you in thought and prayer.

Love,

Lauren Hermann Peck

To all on this website and everywhere else who have ent their good thoughts, prayers and energy all kinds, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have not read this for several days but I needed to see it this morning and it brings me to tears to see just how good and compassionate people truly are. Please know that it is truly a comfort to our family. We are all profoundly grateful that Preston was able to let go on his own and is where he needs to be.

Thank you all again so much - I don't even have the words to express how this means to all of us. (posted by Margot Brennan Graves (Preston's sister) on Cheryl's thing)

I want to send my thoughts and deepest sympathies to Cheryl and Preston's three children. I have worked closely with Preston in the Golden office of Solar Power Inc. these past seven months, so I really just had begun to get to know him. I do know that Preston and I shared much including a love of our families and children, a love of the outdoors, as well as a strong desire to make a positive difference in the world. I thoroughly enjoyed my brief acquaintance with Preston, and I (& others at SPI) will miss his can-do attitude and fun-loving, humorous approach to work...and more importantly, to life! Safe travels, Preston...your spirit will always be with us.

To Preston’s family, friends and loved ones, please accept my sincere condolences on his passing. As a climber, I struggle for the right words, but they elude me. What keeps going through my mind is: We know neither the time or the place, only the inevitably thereof. But inevitable does not mean we should sit around and wait. On the contrary, we should fight to live every minute we are given.

I did not know Preston, but I gather from these postings that he lived passionately, fought to the end, and died surrounded by his loved ones. He was young, too young we can argue, but who are we to make this call? His young age only drills home our duty to live our respective lives to the very fullest extent possible, to love, to give, to fight to leave this world a better place than how we found it. While we are all deeply saddened by our loss, we should also celebrate Preston’s life and the remarkable number of people he has touched in his passing.

With sincerest sympathies,
Tom Stocker

Willy, Noah, Talia, Cheryl, and Preston's friends,

I'm so sorry. Climbing Elephants Perch with Preston last summer was one of my best little epics. I've been following the forum and you have a great supportive community. I'll try to come down for the memorial. I've passed on the sad news to my family.

Love,
David Claman

My husband and I played hockey with Preston at BVICE, and we know him as a kind and always positive influence. He is a wonderful spirit that has passed on too soon for those of us left behind. Our hearts and prayers go out to you-- family and friends of Preston-- Please do not hesitate to let us know if there is anything we can do to help with the memorial bench. Preston's life was a celebration of friendship and family--nothing is more apparent than that in the words of everyone here on this post.

Our heartfelt condolences to what sounds to be a truly vast and wonderful web of loved ones that Preston leaves behind. We'd love to hear some stories about Preston, if you would like to tell them.

This was given to me when someone I loved dearly passed away, thought I'd pass it on - hope it's appropriate. Preston, we'll see you down the road friend.

If I die, survive me with such sheer force
that you waken the furies of the pallid and the cold,
from south to south lift your indelible eyes,
from sun to sun dream through your singing mouth.
I don't want my heritage of joy to die.
Don't call up my person. I am absent.
Live in my absence as if in a house.
Absence is a house so vast
that inside you will pass through its walls
and hang pictures on the air.
Absence is a house so transparent
that I, lifeless, will see you, living,
and if you suffer, my love, I will die again.

Many tears today.
My girlfriend and I climbed today always in sight of the Basteile. I just thought about everything that has happened in the past week, It made me think about the 17-years that I have been in the canyon.
I never knew Preston, however, when I saw him, my first impression was a gruff looking climber that probably did things back in the day that most of us could only dream of. One of those old school climbers that commands respect. So many of us know those people that we just look up to. Preston, looked like someone I just wanted to have a beer with and really hear his story. I know if I had the chance it would have been amazing.
Over the years many tragedy's have happened in the canyon. However, many amazing things have too. I know that personally I have done things that seemed impossibe, both physically, and mentally. Eldo is where I find my spirituality and I know sometimes things that are done can only be explained by those above.
Maybe the next time you do something amazing it will be because the amazing spirit of Preston Brennan, and many before him are in your corner.
Nothing but profound respect for Preston, his Family. I know these are hard times, and if there is anything I can do. I will.
Many prayer, and much love.
Micah

Cheryl, Willi, Noah, Talia, and family,
My heart goes out to you..I am saddened by this outcome...I honor your courage and strength through this and know that Preston is surrounded in love and is watching over your family...I, along with so many others, have been praying for healing and loving arms to make this experience as grace filled as possible. I will continue to hold you in my prayers and in love and light. In the short time I came into contact with Preston as I cared for your children, I loved our conversations about life and the funny way he had of keeping things in perspective yet with his own true conviction as well. He will be deeply missed and always loved.

With peace and honor,
Savanna

I just found out as I'm out of the country. My condolences to his family. He was a great guy and certainly the best boss I've ever had. Never had a problem letting me disappear for up to two months at a time for film work and always getting me back on a job when i got home. I'm simply floored by his passing.

Cheryl, I never met Preston, but am saddened by his loss. Having been through this recently it brings back a lot of memories. I wish you and your family the best and hope that as difficult as it may be Presons life may be celebrated. I found it very hard to get to that point myself and still deal with it daily. I can only imagine there are a lot of unanswerable questions regarding climbing, risk, chance, and the "why" did this have to happen. I wish I had some of the answers myself. I do know that for me the pain was appalling and felt impossible...but that there was always hope somewhere - even though at times I had to be reminded it. The pain has dulled over time, still always there, but not present all the time. I've found ways to live again. I can only imagine Preston is thinking the same thing right now...wanting you all to live again, happy and without pain.

Barbara, Family, and Friends of Preston, I worked on a couple of solar projects with Preston in the past seven months. I admired his leadership, his attention to detail, his sense of humor and most of all his kind heart. He was so excited to learn about and install solar, a positive way to give back to our environment and humanity. I was truly shocked when I heard the terrible news and send my prayers and heartfelt support to all who knew this dear man. He had a passion for life and lived it to the fullest. He will be missed. A memorial fund has been set up in Preston's memory for his children. If you want to make any donations, it is through Wells Fargo Bank. The obituary will be posted next week. we had a beautiful outdoor memorial service yesterday at Chatauqua, it was only for family, but it was beautiful and even Preston would have loved it. The Celebration of his life on Aug 3rd at Purple park will be open to the public, Bring picnic blankets and chairs, there will be a tent with food and an open mike for people to share stories or memories of Preston. If you have any pictures, arrange them somehow onto a board or into a book, we will have as many out as we can. If you have any questions you can email me, Love to all who have and are continuing to support our family at this tragic time. Cheryl Brennan and kids
