OK so here is the deal i am looking for someone, to accend the northwest ridge from lee canyon behind the resort to the summit of Charleston, skier or snowboarder, i am an expert snowboarder and would like to ride the ridge or ride when ever possible, and snowshoe the rest of the hike, i have friends at camp lee, and it would be possible to stay the night before and leave lee early, i have ski patrol experience, i have had avalanche safety courses, e.m.t cert., and am an experienced red rock climber, the snow pack is nice and solid now above 9000, and i am looking to go after this next storm passes, and clears, maybe this sat? IM looking for a serious partner with winter alpine, backcountry experience, so if anybody is interested they can get back to me here, peace rex

Rex,
I am no expert but I have skied all of the area you are referring to and personally think that the snowpack is a little thin. As far as I know there has been no avy activity yet which is usually required to ski (as most of the descents follow gullies). Would be glad to hook up anytime later in the year though. Dave.

The Hose goes with some careful mixed sections. Not sure if those fixed lines are helping to fatten things up, kinda ugly though.

Rex,

Have you done this yet? I was up there snowshoeing on the Bristlecone trail yesterday and I'd love to do more. Let me know if you are still looking at this.

As of friday afternoon the avy danger was extremely high. Lots of naturally triggered slides. Be careful up there, Dave.

whats up guys well ive been out and about all around lee canyon, after the last big storm snow stability was hella sketchy for a few days, ive snowshoed up foxtail ridge to lee ridge and hit the main avy coulour back to the chair at the resort, saw some recent tracks along the way others have been hiking up foxtail ridge and pinning the pow i possible thought about the summit for this weekend but i think the recent high winds will have formed a dangerous crusty layer, its so hard to know the conditions way up top, im m going to wait for after the next storm or at least a warm windless cool down, as for the backcountry around lee canyon my word is it was perfect this last sunday still good pow stashes in shady canyons and stability was good, coverage is enough but can be sketchy in the shady spots below 9,000. i was staying up their the whole time during the last storm and at camp lee i got a storm total of around 19"from thurs to mon, so their is still good snow you just have to go out an get it, if anybody wants to go get some and aint afraid to hike it in im off around 9:00 am everday , and i am ready to roll , rex

For the Hose...hike up the Griffith Peak trail from the picnic area above Mt. Charleston Lodge...careful - not the first trail you see. That goes to the summit of Beacon Rock. About a mile up look back west into a gully after you cross a small drainage stream or streambed. If you encounter the big avalanche track of broken trees you have gone to far. Look for a faint trail leading up to it.

Hi, I will be in the Las Vegas region Feb 28 to Mar 9. However mostly on a conference for business.

But if there is a chance esp. this Friday to Sunday to do some real skiing e.g. climbing Mt Charleston I would be happy to join somebody, who is familiar with the region.

I am a German ski instructor and highly experienced randoneeing and climbing. To Las Vegas I will bring only climbing gear for Redrock stuff. So for skiing I need to rent something, but would love to get this experience, if snow avalance situation and weather fit. Give me a call at my mobile 0049 178 558 7264 or to pa4g@gmx.de .
